Taxpayers Could Be on the Hook for Billions in Damages to Canadian Firm Over Biden's Cancellation of Keystone

Weeks after TC Energy officially terminated the Keystone XL pipeline because President Biden revoked a key permit, the company announced it is seeking billion in damages from the U.S. government.

On Friday, the company behind the project filed a Notice of Intent with the State Department, Office of the Legal Adviser, “to initiate a legacy North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) claim under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement to recover economic damages resulting from the revocation of the Keystone XL Project’s Presidential Permit.”

TC Energy is seeking over $15 billion due to the U.S. government’s “breach of its NAFTA obligations.”

In pulling the order, Biden said that "leaving the Keystone XL pipeline permit in place would not be consistent with my Administration's economic and climate imperatives."

According to Keystone XL, the construction project would have directly created more than 10,000 U.S. “high-quality jobs and local contracting opportunities.” A State Department study referenced by Fox News put the number even higher at 26,100 jobs with the inclusion of indirect jobs.

The Biden administration is also facing a lawsuit from a coalition of 21 states, led by Texas and Montana, which argues “Biden does not have the unilateral authority to change energy policy that the U.S. Congress has set,” Reuters reports.

“Since his first day in office, President Biden has made it his mission to undo all the progress of the previous administration, with complete disregard for the Constitutional limits on his power,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement announcing the lawsuit. “His decision to revoke the pipeline permit is not only unlawful but will also devastate the livelihoods of thousands of workers, their families, and their communities.”

Time for Congress to step in and let the pipeline be completed. This is what USMCA was about....working with our neighbors. And we should be honoring our commitments.

Who knows, but maybe Joe and the folks at Keystone are in cahoots. Suppose for a moment that they supported him for president on the condition he cancel the project, then they can sue and recover $15B and the big guy gets his customary 10%. It’s a win - win for them.

Of course I’m trying to be sarcastic but I wouldn’t put it past any of them these days.

When our energy resources use are prohibited from being used by political edict, that curiously benefits Russian oil supply
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3963509/posts
Pipe line shut downs affecting our resources and supply. which result in thousands losing jobs and reliance on costly imports from foreign sources. Denying our energy resources use which if fully developed would turn out to be a major source of income when exported also gives Russia control over Germany .

Which should be issues the Republicans should be hammering away at when mentioning impeachment

Dissasterous results should be expected when such edicts are issued . Those who order and support such decisions should be impeached because of the serious damage being done to the economy.

Alaska and states like Californica and every state which has so called fossil energy reserves both coal and oil and this includes llinois which has both. Cal and Alaska, TX, and possibly Penn has enough stuff there they not only get the stuff from the ground but process it into fuel so that their gas would only cost $1.50 or even less a gallon

I get a kick out of articles that say the taxpayers will have to pay for it. The fed will just print more money, which will make EVERYONE, including the takers, pay via inflation.

And don’t kid yourself, Biden will somehow get his 10% off the top of whatever is paid to TC Energy.

If they had zero tax money, the usurping regime would be forced out.
The IRS should be abolished. They rip off tax monies for themselves and their own agendas. Not our agendas. The waste and pocketing of monies runs rampant:

Supposedly the permit Trump signed allowed
Biden discretion to pull it.

There was a clause...I know...but that’s for the President to use should something go terribly wrong. Not to be used in the way Biden did...which was “I can stop it cuz I wanna”.

The Biden Administration will eventually lose these cases though by then Biden will be in a sanitarium, Kamala will be impeached and removed from office.
