My Black Labrador isn’t frightened by fireworks. They startle her but she takes her cue from us and doesn’t freak out. She can see us being happy so she’s calm.

But both boys and girls in my class talk to me and one of the things that keeps coming up is that they feel very pressured into having what I would call joyless sex by adults and made to feel that there is something wrong with saying no to it.
I find myself in the very odd position of teaching young people that sex is fun but it is also special and should be done with your spouse.
This was not so much the case when I began teaching two decades ago. The second part yes but not that sex was not a chore to be gotten through when you are numb enough to endure it.
Occasionally I would run into with a girl, usually fatherless, who was using joyless sex as a way of gaining male approval.
But now I am seeing it in alarming numbers and among boys as well.
It is reminding me of Japan.
Something has changed and it is not good.

As our dog got older it is now spooked by the fireworks. We shut the windows, turned on the A/C and fans and the TV on. Have fun neighbors!
(Except when it is a week from now and the random “boom” at 1 am.)

I kicked them to the curb 20 or 25 years ago because they were full of Leftist content.
Well, they’re a water dog that’s easily trainable to be a gun dog as well, so that’s not surprising.
