West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that Republicans who were not getting vaccinated for coronavirus are playing “the death lottery.”
Guest anchor Martha Raddatz said, “Let’s go back to who is not getting vaccinated. Statistics show it’s poverty, race and you look at the map, it’s a lot of red states.”
Justice said, “Well, there’s some truth to that and everything. Because the red states probably have a lot of people that, you know, are very, very conservative in their thinking, and they think, ‘Well, I don’t have to do that.’ But they’re not thinking right.”
He added, “When it really boils right down to it, they’re in a lottery to themselves. You know, we have a lottery that basically says, if you’re vaccinated, we’re going to give you stuff. But you’ve got another lottery going on, and it’s the death lottery.”
Raddatz said, “Do you think those people who aren’t vaccinated, who you said are maybe more conservative, maybe don’t want anybody in their business, are really ever going to get vaccinated? What could actually put them over the edge to want it at this point?”
Justice said, “I hate to say this but what would put them over the edge is an awful lot of people die. The only way that is really going to happen is a catastrophe that none of us want. We have got to just keep on trying.”

Like me...here in the craphole known as NY, you have to wear a mask indoors if you are not vaccinated. In the past I hated wearing masks- now i wear my mask as a badge of pride!!! I love shoving it in people’s faces- the mask now says, “F-U... I ain’t vaccinated!!”
What I have is anecdotal, but I have two for you. For a short time in 2020 (Feb-Apr) I dated a woman who’s work requires international travel, and she was claiming that she was in China, roughly in Wuhan around November of 2019, and she had a pretty nasty upper respiratory infection. I took it with a grain of salt, but kept it in mind. I tried to convince her to get tested for the antibodies last year, but she wouldn’t. She got her shot this March without incident.
My niece also had something nasty around that time, but we never knew what it truly was. Also got the jab this year.
Agreed on the issue of making it compulsory. I’ll say to anybody If you’re gonna take it, I wish you the best of health, just don’t force or try to shame others into it.

I’m not anti-vax. I’m just not getting the vaccination.
The Establishment Republican politicians are stuck in some focus grouped thinking that boils down to a:
“Data Driven”
policy that says vaccination lowers transmission.
In the UK and Israel that’s laughable right now as positive tests have risen with a lot of vaccination.
Its so weird because in the UK right now the government is moving towards “living with” the virus and dropping restrictions even as the numbers are way up again.
We needed a lockdown last year with high numbers we were told.
Now we don’t.
People I don’t trust wanting me to do things….

The red states in the South all have significant Black or Hispanic populations.
Mississippi - 41% Black and Hispanic
Florida - 43% Black and Hispanic

That’s when I got it in NJ, around TG ‘19. Eventually the whole family got it.
Now, none of us is vaxxed, not because we don’t ‘believe’ in vaccines, we just don’t believe (it’s true) that these ‘things’ are vaccines.
I know how long and difficult the vaccine approval process and trial phases are. I had to deal with it when I engineered a Polio vaccine plant one day.

Dear Governor, You are in a death lottery every time you drive on the highway. Every time you take a bite of steak. Every time you go swimming. In fact I am willing to bet deaths from car accidents, drowning, and choking are much higher (at least for some age groups) than risk of death from the virus.
