Ted Cruz to Newsmax: 'Considering' 2024 White House Run
Newsmax ^ | Thursday, 01 July 2021 06:49 PM | By Jack Gournell

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, tells Newsmax he's "considering" another run for the White House in 2024, but he'd be happy seeking another term representing Texas in the U.S. Senate as well.

Appearing Thursday on "The Chris Salcedo Show," Cruz told guest host Tom Basile he was "just considering it, just thinking about it," when asked about his 2024 plans.

Former President Donald Trump has yet to announce whether he will seek reelection after his 2020 loss to Democrat Joe Biden. A move by Trump to reclaim the Oval Office would certainly make the still popular former commander-in-chief the strong front-runner and force most serious candidates such as Cruz to sit out another four years.

But Cruz said his 2016 bid for the GOP presidential nomination, in which he was the last candidate standing against Trump, was "the most fun I've ever had in my life."

"We came incredibly close," he said. "Had an incredible grassroots army of 326,000 volunteers nationwide. And so whether it is in the Senate, or whether it is in a presidential campaign, I am committed to fighting to defend free enterprise, to defend freedom and defend the Constitution and Bill of Rights."

If your detailed explanation about Cruz’s Canadian birth,I don’t know how he could possibly imagine he could be President. Nor can I imagine that Trump would allow that to happen if Trump wanted the job.

Here is one detailed explanation on how the 133,000,000 figure was incorrectly arrived at. I chose a foreign source, figuring that most US sources would be strongly biased for one party or the other.

Cruz got a stiff challenge from Beto Effing O’Rourke. He has zero chance of becoming POTUS. I do think he’d make a fine SCOTUS or Attorney General.

Strictly speaking I think that Cruz was not even Constitutionally eligible to be a Senator. The requirement was 30 years of age and 9 years a Citizen, Article 1 Section 3. As of June 2014, Cruz was a Canadian Citizen.

I myself think he will get in briefly, and for some reason will not catch on. 2024 is a long way away, he is not going to be as sprite and on top of his game as nine years earlier when he started, and likely Melania will not be on the team as well. It is just based on history of presidential races, and the fact that so many want him to fail so they can take up that banner, but they have to put a sweet face on it, and hold it in and avoid all criticism of him. He is not particularly loved by a good segment of Capitol Hill; they just have to go along due to fear of him and his base. It is not built upon for example the way Reagan constructed his base of loyalty where the guy engendered true, deep love and uplifting inspiration. I lived through those days. Big difference from this current situation.

Thank you for your thoughts. I think DJT is head & shoulders above Reagan who was a fine, patriotic President but without the grit, tactical command and focus that DJT has brought to the job. Different men for different times.
I agree completely the professional political class despises him & discounts the interests of the American people. We will have to hold their feet to the fire and primary all of those foolish enough to make their corruption and self interest obvious. Every “Never Trumper” should be targeted by everyone who loves our Country and cares about her future.

The first iteration of Donald Trump was something like 39 years ago, coming face to face with Reagan in the East Room. In the form of one Gary Richard Arnold (he and the incident can be googled though I think there is no footage), a Congressional GOP Candidate who somehow slipped in under the wire, in a northern California liberal coastal district. Q-Anon, tin foil hat, Bilderbergers/CFR/Deep State-panicked nutcake. There is a transcript. In an audience of about 200, Arnold deployed his MAGA-ism and prattled, then was told to SHUT UP by Reagan. I have no doubt in my mind that Reagan would say the same to Trump in our time. He is probably rolling over in disgust over what has happened to his GOP, with the Marjorie Taylors, the Boeberts, the Goetzs, the Gosars in the drivers seat. That is just my own mileage. I will always be a Conservative, not a populist white nationalist in search of authoritarianism just to ‘own the libs’, and I do think there is a major difference.

It is always salutary to interact with people whose mileage varies. We probably share goals & ambitions for America while we do not agree on POTUS Trump. As a NYer by birth & a NJ resident for 40 years some of the superficial trappings do not bother me as they might others.
POTUS Trump is the only man in my lifetime who has moved the battle to the enemies camp. He cut regulations, decreased Government overreach, returned power to the States, started the process of moving Gvt out of DC, cleaned up the VA system and gave vets a way to get care outside the system when the system was too slow. There are many other equally important areas where his term made substantial gains for America such as energy independence, advance in world peace, new trade deals, etc.
Because of POTUS Trump we are having more honest discussions. He was hemmed in & obstructed and had to duck & weave, sometimes accepting a less than perfect solution to keep moving in the right direction. It is easier to win by “shaping”, moving ever closer to the desired position, than by trying to get things perfect against opposition from vested interests & political enemies.
I have a great deal of respect & gratitude to this reluctant warrior who gave up much to fight for Americans. I have profound disgust for the many armchair warriors who are content to be purists and critics. While accomplishing nothing other than burnishing their self importance, they create additional drag on the system hampering the return of America to a Constitutional Republic.

I was not suggesting that you were in the category I highlighted last. Just my frustration at the Never Trumpers and lazy intellects poking through. I think the white Nationalism is a small segment of strange folks. There will always be strange folks and I do not believe that POTUS Trump holds any brief for those ideas. From start to finish he has worked to empower all Americans so that they may pursue their dreams. Look at his record on small business, job training, decreasing the price of energy so that more people could leave poverty. Look at his joy that more people of every walk of life were working, his championship of school choice, his justice reforms etc.
Trump pursued equality of opportunity all his adult life.

My best for Ted would be 3.5 years as AG for Trump starting in 2025 and then SCOTUS nominated by President Trump in his waining months as President.

Well, he’s about as exciting as paint drying, and I’m at best suspicious of him, but as insiders go, he’s one of the better ones. The problem is, he’d probably motivate the base about as much as gallbladder surgery.

Cruz is probably a good Republican choice. Minority. Talks real fine. Debates real well. Pretty good conservative. Stalwart Republican. Ticks all the right boxes.
Damn good Republican choice.
I will not be voting for for him, but y’all have at it.
