Hancock faces constituency backlash over affair scandal - with calls for him to 'resign without delay'

Matt Hancock is facing a backlash in his constituency over breaking social distancing rules, with a Conservative councillor calling for the former health secretary to be deselected if he does not stand down.

Ian Houlder has written to the local Tory party calling for Mr Hancock to be removed as MP for West Suffolk in the wake of his resignation from cabinet.

Mr Hancock, who has been MP for the constituency since 2010 and has a majority of more than 23,000, quit at the weekend after leaked CCTV footage showed him kissing his aide in his office in breach of COVID-19 rules.

The West Suffolk councillor said Mr Hancock's actions were "beyond the pale", adding that his "honour, integrity, probity and honesty, should he have had any, [is] trashed beyond redemption".

In his email to the chair of the West Suffolk Conservative Association, Mr Houlder said the controversy had shown Mr Hancock to be a "selfish, egotistical man".

"He has let every member of the public down, pontificating that they should all make huge sacrifices on the altar of the pandemic, whilst doing the complete opposite himself," Mr Houlder added.

He has also written directly to Mr Hancock, telling him: "If you have a shred of integrity or honour you would resign without delay.

Hancock's district want him gone. They're furious about what happened.

If he does resign it sets up a special election which could be a headache for Boris even though it's a safe seat

Talk about a fall from grace.

All because he couldn’t help himself ...

He has lost everything.

He did breach covid rules and from the outrage that ensued it is safe to bet his “aide” was a biological woman and not a man or a tranny.

I don’t know anything about the politics in that area, but I get the sense that his constituents have had
it with him, and this was just the last straw.

“All because he couldn’t help himself ...”

Perhaps it was a ‘reasonable’ reaction? Only pictures can answer that question.

I’ve seen videos of this joker from before his ‘fling’ that was captured on CCTV. He is a CREEP! My first thought was, how could the people of the UK elect such a creep? Alas, I can’t say much, after all, just look at our (Canadian) Prime Mistake, Justin(e) True-dope!

It’s not just breaching the COVID rules. As Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, he ultimately was responsible for creating the rules, which he then broke repeatedly. It’s the hypocrisy of creating very strict rules and then breaking them for an extra marital affair with an aide.

He’s embarrassed his party, The Government, and The Cabinet. People who followed the rules are rightfully angry. This is much worse than Newsom’s restaurant violation, or Whitmer’s hypocrisy, because the UK rules were so much stricter.

He’s lost his cabinet seat, is facing de-selection by his constituency association, which is rare and may be forced out of Parliament, triggering an unneeded by-election, all for a piece of tail…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Suffolk_(UK_Parliament_constituency)

It is a safe seat, Hancock won it with 65% (33,842 votes) in the 2019 General Election. However a reduced majority in a by-election would be an embarrassment for the Conservative Government.
