Meanwhile, the good news out of Portland is that the Antifa Thugs have not been burning down buildings to keep warm at night.

Yeah, they light fires to cool off...:-)

Yeah, Portland is pretty much the sphincter of the Pacific Northwest these days. Too bad, I was born and raised there, and it was nice back then.

Its all the racist suns fault, making the people hot and sweaty, effecting the marginalized BIPOCS the hardest because of the extra melanin that they have.
Its time for all liberal cities to have domes put over them to refract the heat, its infrastructure.
We must stand for heatwave justice.

Grew up in Peoria. Live in Champaign. Roads suck big time depending on who is responsible for maintaining them.

It would be from the increased amperage running through them due to the heat. (AC units cranking, etc.)

The insulation on that wire was abraided off and it SHORTED OUT against some other metal piece, that damage was NOT CAUSED BY THE outside temperature!!!!

Why are there stress relief cuts in the pavement at that intersection? It looks like they were there prior to buckling and it is only in the intersection. Is this area prone to heaving?

And even back in the glory days of trolleys and electric railways, when they didn’t have the automatic-tensioning technology for the overhead, and the line crews had to adjust wire tension by hand in temperature extremes...guess what, THEY JUST WENT OUT AND DID IT!

The resistance of wire tends to increase with the temperature. Furthermore, the wire tends to expand with heat so it tends to sag more at higher temperatures.

But copper and aluminum expand with heat and sag lower.

How do you trust reporting, when in Olympia my thermometer was pegged at 91 Monday, after 97 on Sunday? It has always been very accurate. Higher by 11 degrees F?
