Power cables supporting Portland streetcars wilted under the intense heat wave. (Twitter/@PDXStreetcar)

“power cables supporting streetcars in Portland were stretched to the extreme, melting in some areas.”

Something wrong here.
Power cables are not insulated, and aluminum or copper doesn’t melt at these temps.

Portland is becoming Hell on Earth to its residents thanks to BLM/Antifa and now this heatwave.

Gee, that’s gonna be tough on Pantifa with their cute little black outfits. Btw, Googles article on this heat wave cites Climate Scientologist Michael “hide the decline” Mann as their go-to authority.

We all know, of course, this is setting up their radical climate-change agenda to enslave all of us.

If they don't care that Antifa is burning down Portland, why would they be particular when it comes to climate?

A regular heat wave following recent droughts equals higher than usual temps at this time.

Normally wetter ground absorbs some of the heat in hotter temps, mitigating the effects at ground temperature. Think of the same sunny day on the desert versus in a lakeside tree covered meadow.

Not insulated? If you’re referring to the ones up on the power lines, that’s true. These are the ones feeding the overhead trolley wire that power the street cars. Those are insulated - that one looks like it was abraded and shorted out.

As far as not melting, what happens is that they do elongate as they get hot, so any combination of ambient heat and internal heat generated by an increase in current will cause the overhead wires to sag on hot days and/or days with big loads on the supply grid.

Parts of Interstate 5 near Seattle buckled from the heat yesterday - it cooled off last night, though.

LOL I hadn’t thought about that. But the word “karma” has been floating in my mind of late, hearing about the historical extreme heat in Portland.
