The dangerous Delta variant of the coronavirus is spreading so quickly in the United States that it's likely the mutant strain will become predominant in the nation within weeks, according to federal health officials and a new analysis.
At a White House briefing on COVID-19 on Tuesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health said 20.6% of new cases in the U.S. are due to the Delta variant. And other scientists tracking the variant say it is on track to become the dominant virus variant in the U.S.
"The Delta variant is currently the greatest threat in the U.S. to our attempt to eliminate COVID-19," Fauci said. He noted that the proportion of infections being caused by the variant is doubling every two weeks.
The variant, first identified in India, is the most contagious yet and, among those not yet vaccinated, may trigger serious illness in more people than other variants do, he said.

I retired last week. Virtually all my internet time was spent during boring meetings (lots of them). I have almost ne need to be on the internet any more. And I’ve not had TV since 1997. I just happened to check FR as I was pulling down some songs for Church worship team.
This means that because nobody is wearing masks or social distancing any more at least where I live, for me this nonsense is over.
It’s back to normal, and has been for a while now, actually. The retirement just sealed the deal. I’m busy finishing up the shop and landscaping now.

Just why is the variant “dangerous”? It spreading faster is not necessarily a reason to label it such. Is the fatality rate higher? Is the fatality rate higher among healthy young adults and minors? Is the likelyhood of long term hospitalization in ICU greater. Is there more need for inpatient rehab following initial recovery? Is it leaving patients with more long term health problems such as liver problems? How does this danger compare to other viral infections?
Not only blue state, Indiana’s RIC (rino in charge) will also join the band wagon.

It is a mutation, the usual thing is the more it mutates the virulent it is, meaning less dangerous.

Mr. Fauxi’s comments ceased to be relevant one minute after the two weeks of “flattening the curve” in the Spring of 2020.
