U.S. explains abolishing of sanctions against Nord Stream 2

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent explained why the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden made a decision to release from the sanctions the main company that is responsible for the activity of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline – Nord Stream-2 AG as Voice of America reported.

“It was made to leave the space for diplomacy. We made clear our expectations – Germany has to do the right thing, be a leader of Europe as it is now and assume actions to make sure that Russia does not use its energy as the weapon,” Kent stated.

Meanwhile, he added that both, President Biden and U.S. State Secretary Antony Blinken consider the Nord Stream 2 to be a bad project.

“Currently, the issue is not in the physical further construction of the pipeline but its enactment and what Gazprom and Russia can do if it is certified and starts its work,” the diplomat said.

“Finally, the most important thing that the pipeline should not be used as the weapon against Ukraine, Poland, and other countries that beware of Russia using its energy as the weapon as it did in the past,” the official concluded.

Earlier, Dmytro Kuleba stated that Ukraine is ready to negotiate compensation for the loss of cash proceeds from gas transit after the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken assured that Washington together with Berlin are working to prevent Russia from using the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as a coercive tool against Ukraine and other Eastern European countries.

This is the diplomatic equivalent of “No Cash Bail,” and just as effective at curbing bad behavior.

“President Biden and U.S. State Secretary Antony Blinken consider the Nord Stream 2 to be a bad project.”

If Russian gas goes straight from Russia to Germany and bypasses sticky fingers Ukraine, Washington DC can’t get payoffs for their kids like Pelosi’s son, Kerry’s son, Romneys staffer, Biden’s son, etc etc.

Dc has no problem with Germany buying Russian gas as long as they get in on the action.
