Washington Post reporter Hannah Dreier has been accused of misleading people on Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ response to the recent residential building collapse in his state.
On Saturday, Dreier posted on her Twitter an account of FEMA’s response to the recent building collapse that occurred early Thursday morning in Surfside, Florida. From FEMA’s statement, she concluded that DeSantis had waited over a crucial twenty–four hours to provide emergency relief for victims.
"There's a saying in emergency management: The first 24 hours are the only 24 hours," she tweeted. "FEMA was ready to deploy to the condo collapse almost immediately, and included the crisis in its daily briefing, but didn't get permission from Gov. DeSantis to get on the ground for a full day."

FEMA are not first responders. Never have been, and should never be.
Local emergency response was on scene within minutes. The media are just lying liars who lie.

Local response is what was called for and what happened faster than one would any more expect. This one is not a FMA job. FEMA would just get in the way and tie the scene up in red tape. Subsidiarity is what it is about. Even Katrina was not what is propagandized. There were rules that had to be observed i.e. the mayor had to call for FMA. The mayor refused to call, said he didn’t want Bush’s hands on the project. Like any other Democrat he preferred that people die and the disaster get worse than for the Republican to possibly get any credit.
She should have first learned what is considered large enough for a Gov. to declare such an emergency. Biden had to exempt the guidelines for Desantis to qualify for Fema before e could declare it.
