A professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington who openly called for members of the Republican Party to be blown up appears to be on track to keep his job.
Dan Johnson, an associate professor at UNCW’s School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, posted “Blow Up Republicans” on Facebook on May 17, prompting several students to complain before the post was taken down, according to Campus Reform.
A spokeswoman for the university, Andrea Monroe Weaver, told Campus Reform that “the university was made aware of the post and has appropriately addressed it," later confirming to the outlet that Johnson is slated to continue teaching this fall.
In a further statement, the school defended Johnson’s First Amendment rights.
“UNCW was made aware of a now-deleted social media post made by a UNCW faculty member on a personal platform,” the school said in a statement. “The university acted on the information in a timely and appropriate manner. The faculty member expressed deep remorse and deleted the post.”
The statement continued, “Any hateful language by faculty, staff or students aimed at others is contrary to our university values and our commitment to an environment of respect and dignity. It is absolutely reprehensible. However, no matter how upsetting and distasteful such comments may be, they are expressions of free speech and protected by the First Amendment unless they represent a true threat. UNCW reviews any perceived threats that are brought to our attention. We have determined that the conduct and now-deleted post at issue do not contain any evidence of a true threat toward any members of our community.”

Try posting “Blow up Democrats” and see what happens.
Rights and protections for me but not for thee.
And if you had a professor that said “Blow up Democrats”...
I bet a conservative student posting "Boo!" on social media is seen and treated as a true threat. If they are serious and consistent about 1a rights, then that would be a good thing. That is highly doubtful.

Well of course, because “your community” doesn’t include Republicans.
What, No promotion to Dean and a big raise?
Of course he will. Dummies. Everybody needs to understand how this stuff works.
‘Hang College professors’
Even better.
When I first read “blow up Republican” I envisioned an inflatable doll.
Did a search on “inflatable politician doll” (hoping to avoid NSFW stuff) and found this

“Like an inflatable love doll, one can project whatever fantasy one wishes upon Joe Biden”
Probably against guidelines, it’s all I can think of as a solution.
Defund “Academia”

Vile antisemitic picture shows human remains on a shovel - but Facebook refused to remove it
Facebook has been accused of "enabling vicious Jewish hatred" after telling users an image depicting human remains on a shovel below the tag line "How to pick up Jewish chicks" did not breach its standards.
Just days after back flipping on its decision to censor an iconic Vietnam War photo of a naked girl escaping a napalm bombing, the social media giant is again under fire over its handling of posts reported as offensive.
In reply to complaints about the shovel image - which was widely shared, "liked" 21,000 times, and received more than 37,000 comments - Facebook said: "We reviewed the post you reported for displaying hate speech and found it doesn't violate our community standards."
Under its community standards policy, Facebook says it "removes hate speech" that attacks people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin and religious affiliation.
"We allow humour, satire or social commentary related to these topics, and we believe that when people use their authentic identity, they are more responsible when they share this kind of commentary," the policy says.
The image was posted to a page attributed to a Queensland man late last month and shared 2280 times. It has now been removed but tens of thousands of comments, many of which are anti-Semitic, were still visible in the thread as late as Thursday.
A Facebook spokesman said the image was removed for breaching community standards and that the company was still investigating.
But 24 hours after being asked, the spokesman could still not say when the photo was taken down. Facebook could also not explain why only the photo was initially removed and not the entire thread - which is standard when a post is pulled.
