How about this one step way to reduce gun deaths? He should resign.

(That wouldn't do anything to reduce the deaths but it would be good anyway.)

... gun buybacks typically involve exchanging a gun for a gift card, ...

So if I find myself confronted by an armed carjacker or home invader I just show him my gift card and he'll leave me alone?

I recall a rather amusing case where a city was offering 50 dollars in gift certificates for a gun ‘buy-back’ at public park. A group of gun owners set up a table 20 feet away, and offered cash for guns. The crap guns that were useless were rejected, and people went to the city table after that.. But the gun owners got some amazing bargains that day. . .

It gives gun owners a chance to upgrade and get rid of their trash.

“It is not possible, in principle, to “buy back” something that you never owned”

That’s like “amnesty days” at the dump, as though is it illegal to have an old can of paint.

You can't 'buyback' something you've never owned in the first place.

The only positive I see is getting stolen firearms back to their rightful owners.

Guess what, Tom Joyce, hoplohobic bed wetter? I’ll take your money, and use it to buy MORE guns & ammo! I’ll sell you broken JUNK and stuff bolted together from a hardware store, and use the money to build up the militia of the American people!

So if I find myself confronted by an armed carjacker or home invader I just show him my gift card and he'll leave me alone?

If you're super-fast like a movie ninja, you use the sharpened edge of the gift card to slice & dice the bad guy, into bloody little hunks of sushi. If you don't have comic book super-powers, the bad guy shoots you, takes the gift card off your body, and uses it to buy lunch.

Just another form of 'liberal social welfare'...

If they want to ‘buy back’ guns at retail rates I would gladly sell them some that I bought but don’t like.

Everyone has bought a new rifle that shoots like crap and groups like a shotgun blast.

That new wiz bang Ruger with the crappy 8# Lawyer trigger? Yup I’d make Biden the proud owner of that POS for just what I paid..plus tax!

If we wanted to get serious about crime, we would start by putting bounties on the Mexican cartels. Then move to the scumbags in democRAT run cities.

In 30 days you would see major change.

But we aren’t serious. So it will continue.

BS alert! How can you buy back something you never owned and with money that isn't yours in the first place?

They use our taxes to burn in their fireplaces for heat.

He can buy them back with private funds but not government funds.

Well, I think it is illegal to throw paint in the garbage, but, an “amnesty day” is one on which that law won’t be being enforced.
