Climate Change for Christians
American Thinker. com ^ | June 27, 2021 | Dean Davis

Not a week goes by that I don't read one or two letters to the editor of our local newspaper decrying the supposed effects of man-made climate change. The fear is palpable, the proposals sincere, but the misunderstanding hurtful. Writing as a retired pastor, I would like to address this issue from a biblical perspective.

Presently, a naturalistic worldview dominates public policy on climate change, both in Washington and in many blue states. Modern naturalism posits that the universe evolved through random physical processes. This hypothesis entails that our Earth is extremely fragile and that man, often viewed as a clumsy Johnny-come-lately, could completely destroy it if he's not careful. Therefore, an observed trend toward global warming, possibly caused by us humans, generates existential alarm in naturalistic scientists and the people who listen to them.

The biblical worldview (BWV) posits that God is the creator, sustainer, and ruler of all things, including the weather. It also posits that man is his vice-regent on Earth, specially appointed to develop and care for the home he has given us. Because of man's fall into sin, God has temporarily burdened his originally perfect creation with various natural evils such as extremes of heat and cold, drought, storm, earthquake, etc. Ultimately, these "severe mercies" are wake-up calls designed to discourage nature-worship and bring the wanderers home.

Sinful man can and does damage his environment, but the Bible assures us he can never destroy the Earth. That prerogative is reserved for God alone, who has explicitly said he will preserve the Earth in its regular cycles until the return of Christ (Gen. 8:22). Only then will he destroy it, after which he will create new heavens and a new earth, the eternal home of the redeemed (2 Pet. 3).

Typical liberals always trying to play God. HE and only He is in charge. Man can either take care of what God has given us or man can destroy his environment to make it unlivable.

(from the article):" The biblical worldview (BWV) posits that God is the creator, sustainer, and ruler of all things, including the weather."

The cult of 'climate change' looks to government to affect weather and climate change.

“God has temporarily burdened his originally perfect creation with various natural evils such as extremes of heat and cold, drought, storm, earthquake, etc. “

Nonsense. G-d had no such aim or purpose for the weather and temperature changes and differences. That they can burden man is a natural consequence they have, not a motivation of G-d that for that reason He created them. Their entire purpose is part of the natural order of the earth. That humans should understand them and prepare for them, yes, G-d would hope. But that G-d’s only purpose for them was to vex his children? No.

“Earth is “at war with itself” because of mans fall.”

Nonsense.

The one thing the entire material universe exists in displaying is in a material sense it is always, naturally, AGAINST stasis. Dynamic, ongoing, constant and sometimes “extreme” change is the “order” of G-d’s creation. THAT condition is not due to “man’s fall”.

You might want to read Genesis.......The earth was perfect until Adam sinned.

From Genesis 2:

Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.

From Genesis 3

To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’

“Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”

Duh. Here is what Gospel of Matthew says about climate change

The Demand for a Sign

16 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a] 4 A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.

The earth was perfect until the fall. “Cursed is the ground because of you;",

In snow, wind and rain? Seriously? Adam and his wife were both naked,

Adam was given the care of the earth. It was cursed because of his sin as you read above. The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

Matthew has no bearing on the earth being cursed. God gave Adam a perfect world. When Adam sinned he destroyed perfection.

Climate alarmists are modern day villagers looking to sacrifice a virgin to appease the volcano.

You are conflating different and disparate things as “earth” which is not what is being said.

G-d did not make the earth “bad” to endanger man.

Genesis says within the system of the earth, “in the east” G-d created a special garden, where man did not even need to toil. It was out of that perfect garden, not out of the earth, that G-d sent man, where man would have to deal with the natural earth as it is and could no longer live in the perfect garden G-d created for him.

“The earth” was not that garden, though that garden was according to genesis on the earth; but not “the earth”, just a place on it.

Whatever we do here on earth is minor. The sun is 2500 times the influence on our temperatures.

Earth is extremally resilient. Just leave any damaged area for a couple of decades and damage will basically disappear.
We had abandoned country road on a property. In no time, one could not even find where it was.
Farm fields abandoned during depression looks exactly like pristine old forests, environmentalist so much want to preserve.

You mean the curse of "thorns and thistles" were only in the garden? Nope. The earth was perfect, everywhere, until Adam sinned.

Have a blessed day! :-)

“Earth is extremally resilient. “

It is resilient because it is also dynamic. The two go together - dynamic change and adapting / adaptability to change. A static environment would not be very vibrant.

No the curse of thorns and thistles” was outside eden, the garden “in the east”. Genesis does not say that the whole earth was that “perfect garden”, just eden.

No the curse of "thorns and thistles” was outside eden

Which wouldn't be a curse unless it was perfect, would it.

Gotta go. Have company coming.

Actually Genesis 1:2 describes the climate the earth became after the devil got cast down - overthrown... It took at least 6 thousand years, (Moses used that word day, but Peter describes the length of time a day is with the LORD.), for the greatest environmental clean-up ever to be completed to make this earth a habitable place for the age of flesh humans. Need verification... the holy prophets, from Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel that Peter referred in II Peter 3...

No, it was a “curse” outside eden, which was the point; eden was “perfect”, outside eden was not, according to Genesis.

No, it was a “curse” outside eden,

Yup.

eden was “perfect”, outside eden was not

If it wasn't perfect outside of Eden, then there was no curse, thorns and thistles would be "normal". What you are insisting doesn't make sense.

Again, from Genesis and it says "earth", not Eden:
Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
