This is so sad...
Unnamed cop. Victim must not be a jogger.
When the bad guys are down and the police are coming, job #1 is not being taken for a bad guy.
Sooooo, when are the riots happening?
Oh, wait...
Cops are bad for your health. They are stupid, and they are trained to kill you. It ain’t like it was fifty years ago.
I can’t say it was wise for the good samaritan to pick up the perp’s firearm, although it doesn’t seem likely he pointed it at officers. Nevertheless, he was shot and killed anyway. Us peasants tend to get charged with murder when we do that sort of thing.
This incident should show how dangerous it can be to make bold assumptions. The cop assumed WAY too much, and IMO, people in general seem to think that they’re qualified to make all kinds of wild assumptions. It’s a form of self-empowerment and I get that, but when they’re proven to be wrong it can be very disappointing to them, especially when they assume the worst about somebody they don’t really know, which is usually the case.
no warning?
But, luckily, the unnamed cop got to go home that evening.
Hurley didn’t learn the first time that he was probably just lucky a cop didn’t shoot him then. If a cop hater or killer is involved, stay out of it. All civies are the enemy until the perp is caught or summarily executed.
This story, as written, is so convoluted that it is impossible to fully understand.
I’ll have to read it somewhere else in order to know what happened.
Remember when there was the police shooting in Los Angeles, and the cops went bananas looking for the killer, shooting delivery drivers and anyone else in sight?
Also, this citizen seemed smart, aware and rational. In these situations I think the citizen would have responded appropriately, if he knew the cop was there. It is much more likely he didn’t have time to respond, or didn’t see the second cop. Be rational, and consider that people usually act true to their character.
I am wondering if the shooting cop was a woman, or someone the police need to protect for diversity reasons.
I’ve had quite a few strange encounters with police.
Situations where they accused me of something that just wasn’t true.
And if you try to explain they say something like,do you want to go to jail.
What I am basically saying it’s a mixed bag but I still would not favor not having law enforcement.
The hero who shot the bad guy and was later shot by the cop suffered from the wrong skin color. If he was a black guy, the cop wouldn’t have shot him but instead begged and pleaded 73 times to drop the weapon.
In a free nation, where the right to keep and bear arms is protected, the mere sight of a gun cannot justify the use of deadly force from an agent of the state.
These two things, quite simply, cannot coexist.
The more we move into the future, the worse it seems to get. When I was a kid, I used to walk through our sheriff’s station parking lot, back where they kept their cruisers, with a shotgun over my shoulder, heading to the fields behind to dove hunt. The only thing I ever got from those fine officers was a friendly “how many did you get today?”
Where we are heading is not good. I often wonder what would happen if I tried that today. I sure miss the good ole days…..
I’ve always said that wanting a badge and gun should be prima facie evidence that one should not be given one.
Mr. Turley, you were a true hero.
I don't know anything about the political group Mr. Turley was involved in.
But their FB page has this graphic and poem in his honor:
What a tragedy.
So sorry for those left behind.
