Former Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday addressed his GOP critics who believe he could have moved to decertify the election results on January 6, stating there is “almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American President.”
Speaking at the Reagan Library in Southern California as part of “The Time For Choosing” series, Pence laid out a vision for the future of the Republican Party, which he said must be devoted to the Constitution of the United States.

“Also, do you think the President of the Senate should docilely open whatever documents are put in front of him, by whomever can manage to get them there? “
No. Only those certified and delivered by the states.
“What is your view as to why the Framers assigned this task to the President of the Senate?”
It’s a joint session of congress to either accept or reject electors from the states. The President of the Senate presides but does not vote.
As for writing that excludes this power, the 10th Amendment covers it well. Any power not specifically granted is non-existent.
Bingo.
“The GOP is the wholly owned subsidiary of the Chamber of Chinese Commerce. They wanted Trump gone and the GOP delivered for them. It’s that simple.”
I agree with all those points.
Who decides if it is a contested state?
I’m going to go through all the comments later and see what folks are saying. So far I wish Pence would have delayed accepting the electoral votes. I don’t think he really can reject or even delay the ballots under the Constitution, but arguments could be made. I would have liked to see it.
electoral votes, I mean.
If he was just doing as the GOP instructed, I’d say the GOP is no longer a party any of us should be associated with.
Couldn’t be more correct.
“almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American President.”
Typical politician. Don’t answer the question put to you, rather answer the question you wanted asked.
I’d like to ask Pence if he seriously thinks that he has a path to the presidency in 2024? He thinks that he’s the only person in the room who isn’t somehow deluded?
I’m sure you’ll feel the same when President Harris VP follows the Pence precedent.
And if Vice President Gore had tossed out Florida's electoral votes in 2001? Would you be here talking about how appropriate that was?
I expect the vice president, whoever they are and regardless of party, to follow the law and the Constitution. And neither gives that person the power to reject any certificates or delay the proceedings.
As a Catholic, I don’t want to hear that ONE man can’t make a difference.
Q would have us believe he is playing a role to corner the rats.
NAAH!
He is a moral coward. That is easy to believe because that is the way he acted.
So you are saying it is all just ceremonial BS with no purpose. I don’t think I am the one imagining stuff.
FUMP
Give him a break...
All he is saying is that he is an excellent example of a spineless POS...
Anyone who believes Pence could have stopped, or even influenced the outcome is ignorant of the constitution.

As I understand it, some of the states sent letters asking
Pence to send their electoral votes back to those states to review or 10 days...
Just wondering, are you a Constitutional expert? Legal scholar? Or just a Pence supporter?
Maybe I don’t remember the events of the day correctly, but I think Judas here waited for Trump to begin speaking that day to send his letter that day he wasn’t going to do anything that day to help. Trump had been talking about it for awhile yet Pence left him flapping out in the wind

Eh I think you recall the events perfectly...
On Jan.6, I was watching on America’s Real Voice when they broke the story about Pence letter. VERY STRATIGICALLY TIMED IMHO...
You're the only one to mention tossing out votes.
The constitution doesn't dictate the VP rubber stamp/accept the out come.
There was evidence of fraud with witnesses.
This is where you claim there was no evidence of "widespread fraud".
I know you're not exactly a Trump supporter but you should be careful what you wish for. Do I think there was enough fraud to alter the outcome? I don't know. But I think we should have been allowed to find out. And Pence knew there were a lot problems (frankly, so do you), he should have led the charge.
