Lorraine Sue Garza, 45, was charged on June 18 with two counts of abandoning or endangering a child.
According to the arrest report, a woman called police because she was giving three children, ages 11, 13, and 15, food and letting them shower at her home. The children told her that their mother left the house on June 3 and hasn't been back since.
San Antonio police spoke with the 15-year-old girl, who told them that their mother just left and took the family's only cell phone with her, so there was no way they could contact her. The water was turned off at the house and all of the food spoiled, which forced them to ask neighbors for help.

She's pleased with herself. Sorry excuse for a mother. Where did she go? A boyfriend's? How legal were these adoptions?
The water was turned off so how were they using the toilet? Yeah, I know, it wasn't flushed.
Going to catch flak but those kids are old enough to squash bugs and take the dog for a walk rather than let it poop on the floor (or whatever the animal is).
Our daughter, at age 10, made an entire Thanksgiving dinner and pies all from scratch by herself so these kids are certainly old enough not to let food rot. How were they eating before going to the neighbor? Or the neighbor could have saved whatever food could be saved and pointed the 11 year old to the dumpster.
Of course, it gets hot here in TX. Thank goodness for those super neat inventions called windows and doors that can be opened to let the breeze flow through. Many of us grew up without a/c and managed to survive. Inside temps with windows open is usually 10 degrees cooler than outside. Yes, my windows are open and the a/c is off.
Yes, this is a horrible situation but those kids could have taken out the trash, not let food rot, put their clothes away and not lived in poo.
And all she could say in her defense was .... NO COMPRENDE
I am going to give the kids the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they thought their mother would be coming back. Maybe no one has taught them the numerous skills that your daughter had, to be able to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner by herself. Maybe there was no electricity to keep the fridge/freezer going?
Maybe the neighbor didn’t want to “get involved”, because it is not a good neighborhood?
Exactly but considering what a failure the mother is it’s possible she never taught the kids anything. Still, they are old enough to figure out most of it.
I was babysitting my siblings when I was 13. When I was 17 my parents went to Nova Scotia on a motorcycle one summer and left me in charge of my four younger siblings. The youngest was one. We did fine even if I did have to threaten my brother once with a ball bat to get him back in line. 😁 He was 13 and thought he should be the boss. A mad redhead with a ball bat convinced him otherwise. LOL All I had to do was shake it at him and he caved.
Kids back in the 60’s and 70’s had more survival skills than kids today.
You are correct, but kids that age also need to be trained in independence and responsibility. Good parents do it imperceptibly and automatically, such that it appears natural to you. But if you have ever worked with ghetto kids or kids from dysfunctional families, you will see how damaging to a child (and society) a poor parent can be.
My kids did not cook at ten....microwave maybe
I cooked some at ten
My kids are spoiled
Good southern manners
But spoiled
Actually, that’s exactly the type of kids I’ve always worked with. I was one of those CPS workers who get cursed on FR. You’d be surprised how many kept their rooms spic and span with the rest of the house trashed or hoarded.
Make that our 9 year old made dinner. She was in 4th grade at the time.
I didn’t read the linked story, but I would agree one would think a 15 year old might be able to manage better. But we don’t know anything about this girl, she just may not have been up to the task for one reason or another, clearly they were not in good circumstances to begin with.
At least they finally got some help. Glad the neighbor called the cops.
well, so much for that motherly instinct...
Situations like this are common. Disgusting skinwastes like this creature adopt a bunch of older kids then spend the thousands of dollars per month the state pays them on drugs. Then the damaged kids go on to do basically the same thing when they grow up and the cycle continues. Society will never recover as long as these types are allowed to roam free.
Ain’t that the truth.
Depends on how they were raised.
why am i always hearing how difficult it is to adopt?? she got 3!!!
American women are really becoming problematic creatures nowadays, like some other demographics...
Kneecap
Cricket bats are better. You can use the flat side for “encouragement”.
Yes, but did she do anything “wrong”? A liberal would argue that there is no right or wrong and therefore she was just making a lifestyle choice.
Mom’s favorite tool was the kitchen spatula that had holes in it. It only took one smack with that thing. It hung on a nail in plain sight instead of a kitchen drawer. All she had to do was look at it and we settled down.
No food or water might just complicate things.
