You are correct, but kids that age also need to be trained in independence and responsibility. Good parents do it imperceptibly and automatically, such that it appears natural to you. But if you have ever worked with ghetto kids or kids from dysfunctional families, you will see how damaging to a child (and society) a poor parent can be.
Actually, that’s exactly the type of kids I’ve always worked with. I was one of those CPS workers who get cursed on FR. You’d be surprised how many kept their rooms spic and span with the rest of the house trashed or hoarded.
Make that our 9 year old made dinner. She was in 4th grade at the time.
