Thousands of dogs will be murdered and eaten over 10 days at the annual Yulin Dog Meat Festival in Guangxi. The festival goes on despite outcries from campaigners who say it is cruelty to animals and a public health risk. The Yulin festival first launched in 2010 where as many as 15,000 dogs were killed. Chinese and international pressure has seen this figure reduce to around 3,000 dogs. However, it is estimated that around 10 to 20 million dogs are slaughtered in China every year.

Hope none of the dogs have been bitten by bats.....
WE have a lot more beef per capita than Red China; I won’t judge them for eating what is available. They aren’t wasting it.
Cows can be just as lovey as dogs...
China is one screwed up country
I agree but the article states that a lot of the dogs are stolen pets...
It’s a good thing they don’t eat bats. Oh, wait...
“Murdered”?
I wonder if they use that term for victims of abortion?
Probably not.
Soul-less.
That’s not cool, but I guess they’re hungry - why else eat a dog?
The problem is - according to dog gourmets - dog meat taste better if the dog is scared before being killed. So torture is a part of the festival...
My son adopted a “rescue dog” from Korea. It is a beagle and it was raised for food.
So, he sends the family a picture of it and everybody said it was cute. I said “Looks delicious”. :)
I personally would not eat a dog, but I consider it a cultural thing. I eat lots of bacon, even though they are supposed to be smarter than dogs, and some keep them as pets.
I draw the line at “human”. Everything else is fair game and I don’t believe I have the right to tell others what they may or may not eat - unless they are trying to eat one of MY animals. Then my property rights are being violated.
Obozo got his best recipes here.
Nuke them from orbit, turn them into ash.
That’s interesting; I’ve heard something similar (but the opposite) for certain fish - if you don’t land it quickly, the taste sucks.
Frankly I’m not concerned about what some ChiCom does to another’s dogs; we have “female circumcision” and honor killings occurring within the US, and few people care.
I saw a video years ago that showed a chinaman swinging a dog to bash it’s head and knock it out or senseless. He then skinned it. It was still breathing. That was about the same time as Paul McCartney came out with Boycott China because he had seen videos like that.
I have always wondered. China and other countries have been around way longer than America. How come they are still barbaric and still living in the stone age?
That’s weird. Just the opposite for beef.
In the US, people kill their pets when they become inconvenient. I am not talking about putting down a old or a sick pet. I am talking about the ones that are just not wanted anymore. It’s wrapped in a nicer looking package by calling it “taking them to the pound” or something like that. If they can’t be adopted within a certain time, they are put down. All nice and tidy but they same result, the dog or cat is dead before it’s time. Each year there is about 1.5 million dogs and cats euthanized by shelters just because they became inconvenient.
They’re all fine people ... though some are barking mad.
