Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms blames soaring crime and 50% increase in murders on Republicans ending COVID restrictions early and lax gun laws

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms blamed the city's crime wave on state Republicans lifting COVID-19 restrictions too early and lax gun laws.

In an interview with MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle on Friday, the mayor attributed a 50 percent increase in homicides, in part, to lax gun laws, teenagers having too much free time on their hands and the state lifting its COVID-19 restrictions back in April.

'Remember, in Georgia, we were opened up before the rest of the country, even before the CDC said that it was safe for us to open,' Bottoms explained to Ruhle.

No you werent open before the rest of the country...

Tennessee was open before you...

Those lazy troublemaking so called ‘teenagers’ ...give them a job...or arrest them for loitering...

Those murders are your fault because you refuse to arrest the ones pulling the trigger...usually black men...

Oh and part of the object of being a leader is a willingness to take responsibility when things go wrong...

So put on your big girl panties and lead....

Yes, because when you have too much time on your hands, and you're not being forced to wear a mask, it's normal to just want to go get a gun and go out and murder someone..

Funny how out here in the suburbs we had no problems with that.

Who knows maybe someone will buy this excuse.

The voters in these cities keep buying it, and voting for more of it.

Black, female mayors across the country have compiled a dismal record while in office. This what you get with identity politics.

Interesting analysis - however if that was a significant factor over all other variables, then we would expect to see a similar spike in crime in all other areas of the state, and I doubt that is the case.

Had a good friend from college in Atlanta who finally gave up on it and moved to Orlando. Said he just could stand the place any more. Very sad to hear, but we can all guess why.

“The other will release the pent up anxiety in a dangerous way and with total disregard.”

There was an increase in street racing and street takeovers to do burnouts and stunts in metro Atlanta during 2020 and continuing into 2021, to the point that the police finally had to crack down because these activities weren’t fading away. The racing and speeding started when the highways and surface streets grew emptier because of the lockdowns and companies making their employees work remotely.

She isn’t as bad as those idiots running Chicago, Portland and Baltimore, but she is not tough on crime in Atlanta. A true law and order candidate will have a good chance to win the next mayor’s race.

Blaming it on Whitey, as always.

The democrats keep blacks poor and miserable, and tell them that Whitey is to blame so they must vote democrat and the democrat party will punish those evil Whiteys and make those innocent blacks happy.

But the democrats only keep the blacks poor and miserable, and blame it on Whitey, thus allowing the blacks to continue in their self-destructive behavior and to hate Whitey.

Oh c’mon man! Downtown Atlanta has been a crime infested chit hole for the 35 years I’ve lived here. If I said why I’d be called the “r” word.

I believe that the majority of fans who were going to see Braves games were white.
Did the Braves build out Buckhead way cause white suburbanites were refusing to come in to the city?

What was said was that inner-city Atlanta doesn’t sell in terms of people wanting to come to a game. This property up toward Buckhead had the interstate connections and near an area to be mall territory.

I can remember around 1975, my dad took the family to a Braves game, and he had detailed directions to the hotel and the ballfield across the street. His impression...talking to others...downtown Atlanta at that point in the mid-70s....was already a place to avoid.

About a decade ago, I attended a Nationals game in DC. Went there by Metro. Didn’t hit me until I got there....station and the entire route went along the green line. It’s one of those things you avoid in DC...the entire green line, because of crime and robberies. I wrapped up the game, quickly went to the station, and went home without lingering around.

On fans attending at Braves games...I would take a guess that 80-percent are white...but part of this story is the cost factor today. If you were of a lower-income level, the cost level has become ridiculous. It’s probably the same way with NFL games.

I lived there in the 70’s. It was a nice place back then.
