The US will invest more than $3 billion to advance the development of antiviral pills for COVID-19 and other pathogens to prepare for future pandemics, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Thursday.
The nation’s top infectious disease expert announced the $3.2 billion investment as part of a new “antiviral program for pandemics” to develop drugs to address symptoms caused by potentially dangerous viruses.
“It’s a whole-of-government effort aimed at developing the next generation of COVID-19 treatments, as well as preparing us for future threats,” Fauci said at the White House’s coronavirus press briefing.

We already have one. Ivermectin is cheap and extremely effective. $3B would buy a lifetime supply for everyone.
This program will require a LOT of Gain of Function research. Count on it.
I’ll jump on that bandwagon with a commensurate level of fervor that I queued up for a vaccine injection.
Exactly, cancer would be a good focus, keep Fauci out of it.
It’ll be a combo of Ivermectin and Hydroxychlorquine.
You don’t do this for a simple pandemic.
They KNOW this is a bioweapon.
yeah.....
no
They are dead set against hydroxycloroquine and ivermectin being used.
Or they could just save the money and suggest already known cures like HCQ and Ivermectin. 🙄
keep syphoning money anyway they can
AND they know what they plan to release next :(
“This program will require a LOT of Gain of Function research. Count on it.”
not necessarily, but let’s do it anyway.

If this money helps come up with some medicine does the pharmaceutical company have to pay back the money ? Or do they just get to be rich off the back of the tax payer?
Imagine if they just spend <5% of that to do a real honest to goodness study of Ivermectin. But who would profit from that?
Maybe. Soon to be eclipsed by The Green New Boondoggle.
Why didn’t they do this for influenza and other viral diseases?

15 Jun 2020. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revoked the emergency use authorization (EUA) that allowed for chloroquine phosphate and hydroxychloroquine sulfate donated to the Strategic National Stockpile to be used to treat certain hospitalized patients with COVID-19 when a clinical trial was unavailable, or participation in a clinical trial was not feasible. The agency determined that the legal criteria for issuing an EUA are no longer met. Based on its ongoing analysis of the EUA and emerging scientific data, the FDA determined that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are unlikely to be effective in treating COVID-19 for the authorized uses in the EUA. Additionally, in light of ongoing serious cardiac adverse events and other potential serious side effects, the known and potential benefits of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine no longer outweigh the known and potential risks for the authorized use.
