An emergency room chief on why San Francisco is facing its worst drug epidemic ever
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | June 15, 2021 | Amy Graff

A physician, two nurses, a professional athlete, a drug dealer and a lawyer who had nodded off in court. Teenagers, specifically a 14- and a 15-year-old. And a 7-year-old who got into a stash in her mother's purse.

These are some of the types of people Dr. Christopher Colwell, the chief of emergency medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, has recently seen in the emergency room for medical issues related to fentanyl use and overdoses.

I think also we can’t ignore the impact of poverty, systemic racism, and serious social issues, health care concerns, especially those exacerbated by COVID."

Fentanyl is made in China, smuggled across the Mexican border, and sold by illegal Hondurans in the Bay Area. But somehow the crisis is caused by white people and systemic racism

Well at least, unlike the lawyer, the others contribute to society.

Hey! If the lawyers aren't here, who is going to eat the stuff off the bottom?

That's the basic question...and the answer is obvious. IMO, the impulse to use may be linked to natural selection.

A physician, two nurses, a professional athlete, a drug dealer and a lawyer walk into a bar ...

The bartender says, “How come you guys are so racist?”

This physician is shining a light on a serious problem. It’s just a shame he had to muck it up with that “systemic racism” garbage comment.

But maybe that’s required these days. Maybe you have to include that phrase somewhere in every last news story.

I guess it’s kinda like the old Soviet Union. Every news story had better include a praise of Comrade Stalin. Or else big trouble!

And this surprises who?

You open the border and allow drug cartels to bring many times more drugs into the country than a year ago and you expect the situation to get better? You expect to see fewer drug abuse cases hit the ER???

I’d have to do some digging, but I think the number in an article I saw recently said 800% more drugs coming across the border now than during the Trump admin. And this is a surprise? What surprises me is somebody actually thinks it’s news. I think it’s exactly what I expected to see once biden’s handlers opened the border back up, based on historical observation.

Trump tried to close the border, derugs smuggled across dwindled down to a trickle. Open it up again what do you expect? They’re making up for lost time, and money.

The comment in post # 1 is right, fentanyl comes from china and is smuggled across the border. According to another article I read, china is now sending the components to mexico, it’s made there and smuggled across. And I strongly suspect it’s actually the chinese government doing it, not your typical drug smuggling operation.

I also remember an article about Trumnp’s first visit to china. It said he asked them (or maybe Xi himself, I can’t remember who) what about their drug problem and the answer was we don’t have a drug problem, we have the death penalty. But fentanyl comes from china. and apparently it’s not a problem to make it and send it abroad, only if you sell it in china...that or it’s the government distributing it...

Wait. Did Facebook buy a hospital? Wouldn't suprise me. Will they admit conservatives?

Silly me. This is Frisco. There are no conservatives.

I think you nailed it! Systemic racism is the mandatory catch phrase in today's United Soviet States of America.

Racism is so prevalent here that damn near every person of color elsewhere on the planet would like to move here.

The answer is easy to see. San Francisco decriminalized all drugs and all “petty” crimes. Therefore drug users have ZERO incentive not to steal to finance their habit and their habit then drives them to steal in a never ending cycle.

Drug problem in San Fran has been atrocious since the 60s. I can’t believe that it’s any worse.

IOWs, these physicians have been dealing with this epidemic for years. Another example of liberal approaches to problems.

This all began back around ‘98 in San Francisco.
It maps very closely with our involvement in Afghanistan and the Opium trade.
