One woman is dead after a man drove into a crowd of protesters late Sunday night in Minneapolis. The suspect is in custody, according to the city's police department.
Demonstrators were gathered to protest the June 3 shooting death of Winston Boogie Smith Jr., a 33-year-old Black man, by U.S. marshals in Minneapolis. At about 11:39 p.m. Sunday, a car sped into protesters that were standing along Lake Street and Girard Avenue in the city's Uptown area, hitting and injuring at least three people.
It's unclear how many protesters were at the scene at the time.
An adult woman critically injured at the scene was declared dead at the hospital as a result of the crash, police tweeted. The woman's name has been shared on social media, but NPR has been unable to confirm her identity independently. Police and the Hennepin County medical examiner's office have not released her identity and didn't immediately respond to NPR's request for comment.
A suspect was pulled from the wrecked car by protesters and restrained, according to police, as well as images and video shared online. His identity has not been released.
Two other people were injured in the crash and transferred by ambulance to an area hospital. One was later treated and released from the hospital.

I read the guy was drunk and speeding. It wasn’t a confrontation; just another drunk ahole driver.

At this point we don’t know whether this was intentional, drunk driving, or an accident, unless additional information is available elsewhere.

If they were standing along the roadway, wouldn't that driver have had to leave the roadway to crash into them?
Evil Leftist scum. I fully expect this from NPR, but to see it...well...it angers me every time. Especially since they STILL get money from me via taxes.
(A) I read that he hit a parked car that was being used to block the street and that the parked car hit the protesters.
(B) I read that the protesters then assaulted the driver. I thought it was wrong for (self-appointed) police to engage in violence against a “suspect”.
