China and Russia's combined military spending exceeds that of the United States when adjusted for purchasing power, which has allowed China to shorten capability gaps in its quest to become the top superpower by midcentury, the top U.S. military officer said Thursday.
"Combined, the Russian and Chinese budgets exceed our budgets if all the cards are put on the table," Joint Chiefs Chairman General Mark Milley told the Senate Armed Services Committee. He called China's increased spending trend "disturbing."
China and Russia are the U.S. military's two biggest competitors. Defense secretaries from Jim Mattis to Lloyd Austin have identified China as the "pacing challenge" for the U.S. military.
Senator Jim Inhofe, the ranking member of the Armed Services Committee, wrote in a recent article that the Chinese defense budget was $604 billion when adjusted for purchasing power, and the Russian defense budget was about $200 billion after adjustments.

Russia has more to fear from a dominant China than it does from the United States. They could lose Siberia.

The Russians have this massive nuclear arsenal and they are by far the biggest country on the planet, car bigger than China. They can survive a nuclear war better than China.

Spending in U.S. dollars is irrelevant in China and Russia.
The Russian nu$e arsenal was not drawn down by treaty as many in the West believed.
All along, Russian military budget is more than double our percentage in weapons procurement, and has remained much higher a percentage of Russian budget than in the West.
We spend ten times more in pay, retirement, medical, and myriad wasteful social services, and grand marxist indoctrination schemes/contracts.

The US already spends an exorbitant amount of money on defense and much of it is wasted or used to pay off defense contractors who then shovel the money to politicians. Lockheed Martin is notorious for selling the defense department shoddy stuff that it doesn’t want. These businesses are smart. They put plants in various congressional districts so that if someone should try to cut something, there will be a congressman show up to insist it is vital.
