Former White House counsel Don McGhan told lawmakers last week that then-President Donald Trump’s effort to get Special Counsel Robert Mueller fired in June 2017 marked a potential “point of no return” for the administration, according to a transcript released Wednesday.
“If the Acting Attorney General [Rod Rosenstein] received what he thought was a direction from the counsel to the President to remove a special counsel, he would either have to remove the special counsel or resign,” McGhan told members of the House Judiciary Committee in the June 4 interview.

The money is on, President Trump was on top of everything all along and for some reason, couldn’t pull the trigger.
Any other electable (ie. non deep state) GOP candidate will face the exact same highly political, weaponized lawfare and spying of the DOJ/FBI
I can’t believe no conservative politician has yet called them out and declared they will be neutered, reformed or even dismantled.
As far as I recall Trump could have gotten rid of Mueller any time he wanted so it would be no effort for him to do so. Turns out there was no case anyway so at this point why even bring it up ?
feh...
No comparison. They just want to relive their glory days when they brought down a popularly elected president for doing a lot less than the illegal, dirty rotten skullduggery that their own party leadership engages in.
Is this a leak?
At his congressional appearance Mueller didn’t even know what was in his own report. He came off as senile as Biden. He definitely was not calling the shots.
If a Republican - Trump or whomever - is lucky enough to win back the White House in three years, they must put a Herculean effort into surrounding themselves with key people who share their world view and are faithful to that world view.
Trump’s White House was viper’s pit of traitors and Deep State bureaucrats. Country won’t survive another 4-years of that.
Same old Ship, different day.
YAWN ...
(they are trying to keep him from running in 2024)
That charge was never going to fly, that is, it did not have enough political support simply because the charge claimed the Donald Trump obstructed an investigation into a crime of which he was concededly innocent because those who were responsible for investigating the alleged crime found Trump to be innocent.
The impeachment could lie only if two thirds of the Senate concluded that Trump was guilty even though he was innocent.
Hopefully Trump is doing research on future Cabinet members now.
It’s all so Soviet. If you protest your innocence you are obstructing your guilt and are this committing a crime.
If it's someone like Mitt Romney or another GOPe hack he could just keep Biden's staff and get a staff that shares his world view fully.
Never did trust this shyster.
I agree. President Trump did a great job, overall, but did not have the best luck with choosing senior staff. Many were more interested in enhancing their own careers while obstructing the President’s efforts to fulfill his campaign promises. If, as I hope, President Trump runs and wins in 2024, he would do well to ignore the “old Washington hands” who are covered in the muck of the Washington swamp. Better to use his own judgement, as he did in running his businesses, and select competent people who believe in the inherent greatness of our country.
Hopefully Trump is doing research on future Cabinet members now.
You got that right. He was listening to the wrong people, giving him the wrong advice all 4 years. He’s learned and knows what needs to be done, not for himself, not for revenge but what will be good for the country and it’s citizens next time around and anyone that isn’t on board can ESAD!!!
Great comparision. Its the only Saturday Night Massacre that never happened. A lberal thought crime turned to a wet dream fantasy.
The key player wasn’t Rod Rosenstein.
It was Mitch McConnell. He told Trump he would be removed if he fired Mueller. Trump believed him.
Everything after June 2017 is explained by this.
Every one knew by June of 2017 that there was nothing to the Russian collusion delusion, yet the GOP left Trump to twist in the wind.
