NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - One man is dead after surveillance video captured him stumbling from door-to-door along Dauphine Street.
The Orleans Parish Coroner identified the man as 29-year-old Matthew Clark, of Michigan.
FOX 8 obtained video from the 500 block of Dauphine Street that captured the moments just before Clark was killed last Thursday night.
The New Orleans Police Department says around 7 p.m., a man inside of a home heard banging on the door, got a gun, and opened the door.
Police say Clark entered the residence, and then lunged toward the person who answered the door. That’s when the man inside of the home shot him.
Looks stumbling, bumbling drunk at 7 p.m. banged on multiple doors, banged on last one for five minutes, they say.
Video at the link.
If only they would ban guns in the French Quarter there would be no more deaths there. Or something.
Why would you even open the door?! If the police had been called - if the city supported the police - this guy would still be alive now.
And need I point out that had this been a black man there’d be campaigning by Democrats in the streets
When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
A perfectly legit shooting. A big belligerent drunk forced his way into a home. Got shot.
Note the drunk was a white guy and the home owner black.
So there will be no repercussions
The French Quarter - ‘I hate the smell of vomit in the morning’ (as Col. Kilgore might have said ;^)...
It follows the letter of the law, and was legitimate under the law.
But, I see very little "forcing his way in". He talks to the person we cannot see, then goes in, at a normal pace, where we cannot see, and is almost immediately shot.
The Homeowner probably should have told him to go away, and maybe he did.
Get drunk, get stupid, get shot.
A terrible situation all around.
On the whole, that is good to hear. I do think opening the door was stupid and would not want to live with that, but would rather live with that than both that and the consequences of letting him continue into the home.
Knarly when one feels the need to open front door with weapon in hand.
And wee wee. Don’t forget that.
One of my first cousins blasted an intruder in New Orleans after he broke in. I remember researching and the Louisiana self protect laws are pretty victim friendly.
The newspaper described the Perp as a “Car stereo installation specialist”
I agree probably no charges are warranted, but in this particular case - even if it was legal - I would feel pretty bad being responsible for this kill. The drunk was in the wrong - probably lost and disoriented, but the homeowner had no way of knowing it at the time, so did what they felt necessary.
I would have shot him too.
Busted...down on Bourbon Street...
Perhaps the homeowner thought that person was in need, an emergency. We don’t know.
Setup. Like a bowling pin.
“campaigning”
That’s hilarious. /s
“ Knarly when one feels the need to open front door with weapon in hand.”
Haven’t spent much time in the French Quarter, eh?
I could make a valid legal argument that the homeowner is guilty of premeditated murder under the auspices of CRT.
But I’m not Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams; look him up.
