Bodies are piling up all over the second amendment as two of America’s pandemics converge. The “plague of gun violence” and the inability to mount an effective response, even in the wake of multiple mass shootings, is, unfortunately, rooted in the other pandemic gripping the United States: anti-Blackness and the sense that African Americans are a dangerous threat that can only be neutralized or stopped by a well-armed white citizenry.

This is the Guardian, fer Christsakes! They are Britain’s version of Pravda. So, let’s talk violent deaths in Britain, why don’t we? How about knife deaths? No? Bugger off, then.
Well the black in Chicago seem to be well armed and are shooting other black in Chicago. Does that mean that blacks see each other as a dangerous threat?
"...the militia had been steadfast was in controlling the enslaved Black population..."
Interesting thesis. Doesn't hold water because lack of comparative parity between a regular army and militia and "we'll regulated militia" is does not mean militia are worthless, nor does a well regulated militia hold zero military value. I'll bet the argument does not obtain because it jumps to the conclusion: "Militia wasn't effective in military value, therefore militia were to suppress black population."
This is a poor argument based on a number of assumptions and reading into history.
Purely stupid propaganda and sophistry.
If they wanted to even come close to a valid point, they could point to weapons and militia being a response to the very significant indian/native american threat. The first 150 years or so of ‘white’ presence in North America was pretty dicey because of that very real threat.
If the good folks at THE GUARDIAN wanted to know the real reason, they could examine why all the SMART FOLKS left their geographical area some 350 years ago.
Maybe if Ms. Andersen got mugged in NYC just once, she would understand self protection with a fire arm.
Well, it could also be sexism.
But regardless women and children (of color) hardest hit.
The thing is, not all of them do.
I believe the upper echelons of Leftists (the steely-eyed ones interested only in power and domination) understand perfectly that statements like "America's gun obsession is rooted in slavery" are pure, unadulterated pap. These people simply find these absurdities quite useful.
But they are a smaller segment of the Left.
The larger portion of the Left which is composed of both the spittle-lipped ANTIFA cannon-fodder types and the intellectually weak and lazy liberals who cast their votes for Leftists because they don't vote, they emote, actually do believe this idiocy.
And that is unnerving.
I often ask the same question.
Surely no one believes this.
Correct. Like most of our problems in this country, the Marxist Left is attacking our freedoms, this time by an evil, licentious perversion of the 2nd Amendment. Those abusing the 2nd Amendment are generally not from the right, but from the Commie Rat Left. A more precise aim would not be at the 2nd Amendment, but directly at the Commie Rats. It is they who are causing the problems . . . intentionally.
Amazing that these people get paid to display their stupidity and they gladly accept it.
According to Critical Marxist Theory, the anti-2ndAmentment crowd are the Oppressors.
The founders didn't want the central government to have police powers. That meant denying them a standing army. The purpose of the second amendment was to make sure the central government could not claim the usual justification European monarchs claimed for needing a standing army.
It didn't work of course.

The militias were at least as bad during the War of 1812. It is no exaggeration to say that they lost every land battle against the British, except for the Battle of New Orleans. The problem was poor leadership. Typically, the commanders of the various companies and battalions of the militia were the local mayors of governors of the States, with no military training. Only at New Orleans did they have effective leadership in Colonel Andrew Jackson.
In contrast to the militias, the American Navy was able to win virtually every engagement with the British. The American Navy had professional leadership, and was battle hardened after the Barbary wars, whereas the British had a bunch of incompetent, ossified officers who had been promoted based on their peerage.
Most law abiding armed citizens are armed for the purpose of defending themselves against criminals. I’m pretty sure if a white criminal is shooting at someone, they’re not going to say “Oh well, he’s white so I’ll just let him shoot.” They’re going to shoot back. Nobody being shot at has EVER worried about the content of melanin in an assailant’s skin when deciding whether to defend himself. This whole article is just ridiculous.
Actually, I tend to agree with this statement. But I would add “class” slavery. America offered freedom and opportunity for lower class, bottom of the class structure, people.
Dear Guardian. Blacks are allow to own guns in the US as well as whites.
I’d suggest that the same issues carried on into the Civil War as well. Regiments then were incorporated into the regular army, but they still had most of the characteristics of the old militia regiments. Recruiting was done locally. Most regiments contained men all from the same town. Many were organized and led by local elites (mayors, wealthy businessmen, etc.). Junior officers often were elected by the men, typically with the most popular winning election rather than the most competent leaders. Debacles like 1st Bull Run early in the war often were the result.
