On Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) alerted state residents that he was not going to lift he state of emergency on June 15, which was the proposed date. Newsom made the announcement during a press conference while announcing winners of a vaccine lottery, "Vax for the Win," where those selected win $50,000 cash prizes. By the way, it's taxable. Welcome to California, the state with the highest income tax.
The casual reveal came during what Eric Ting of SF Gate called a "testy press conference" in his headline, also indicating in his piece that it was "often tense."
The exchange was between Newsom and AP reporter Adam Beam, who referenced the June 15 date:
But look, I'm mindful that this disease has not been extinguished, it hasn't gone away, and if you're in a dense workplace with hundreds of other employees, many of them haven't been vaccinated... we won't be there. We're mindful of variants.
We've never said that we were not going to consider some modifications post June 15, let me specific: We've been very forthright in terms of modifications for large indoor settings with a lot of folks from different backgrounds, walks of life, people coming in internationally, et cetera, and mindful of the importance of face coverings, non-pharmaceutical interventions, as well as pharmaceutical interventions around vaccines and testing requirements.
When multiple reporters wanted to ask about that June 15 date, then, Newsom sarcastically jumped in to mention "I'm glad there are all the questions about the lottery."

Made the recall effort worth it eh Californians? Recall and leave him there until his, term runs out! If he was a republican, he would have already have been hung!
Freedoms willingly surrendered to the government are never willingly returned. How is the recall effort against Newsom coming?
Surprise! Welcome to California knuckleheads!
This scumbag was on his way to be recalled until you stuck your RINO nose into the race and basically agreed with most of his agenda.
Now Newsom is emboldened and is out of Fs to give.
Now that Jenner is in the race, Newsom will win easily.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
John Cox is also running he is a good guy!!
Freedoms willingly surrendered to the government are never willingly returned.
When is the recall date?
Translation: Newsom’s recall polling has improved.
He is being very vague in his responses here. Like always.
The media seems to be trying to portray this as a race between Newsom and Bruce Jenner, but Jenner is far from the only candidate running for governor. There are now abut 50 that have thrown their hats into the ring.
Businessman John Cox has been running ads on TV and San Diego's former mayor Kevin Faulconer is also likely to make a good showing. Daniel Mercuri, a business executive, has won the support of some conservatives, and Laura Stevens, also a conservative, addressed a rally that I recently attended..
Gruesome Newsom won’t rest until all family-owned small businesses in CA are completely destroyed.
Florida is open for business.
However, if you voted for Newsom, remain in California and take your jabs.
Of course he still wants that power
& magically, another COVID wave will hit right before recall
Shutdown & mail in cheating
“Welcome to California, the state with the highest income tax.”
Andrew Cuomo and Bill DeBlasio together “will bury you”.
The beaches are full just like last year. One lie after another from the democrats.
Last week, AAA forecast travel to jump by 60% for the Memorial Day holiday period, with 37 million people expected to travel 50 miles (80 km) or more from home, AAA Travel said.
I heard it from someone else many years ago, don’t remember who. Maybe it was Robert Heinlein.
