Colleges sometimes add requirements to limit the number of students in some majors.
Maybe Princeton is removing requirements to maximize the number of Classics majors.

I remember reading that in 1846, Harvard required you to read Latin (at the level of translating Ciceo) in order to get *in*.
With that in mind, IIRC, I read that Jonathan Edwards (”Sinners in the hand of an angry God”) graduated FROM Yale at age 17.
It is Orwellian doublethink, the accepted coexistence of two mutually contradictory facts determined by The Party.
Perhaps they will translate the "classics" into Ebonics. I mean, if you want to destroy something, don't go half way, destroy it utterly.

University language departments tend to have “studies” (German Studies, Russian Studies, Classical Studies, etc.) concentrations that require less language and literature and more history and area studies, but I’d be surprised if many did away with language learning entirely.
