Black gun owners plan to march in Oklahoma Saturday to advocate for gun ownership and in honor of the Tulsa Race Massacre.
As VICE News reported, hundreds of members from Huey P. Newton Gun Club, Anubis Arms Gun Club, and the Panther Special Operations Command as well other organizations from across the country are expected to participate in the protest.
"Our hope is to try to galvanize a community, educate around the position of Second Amendment rights, and hopefully be a vehicle to more or less unify the African American community," co-founder of the Newton Gun Club in Dallas, Texas, Yafeuh Balogun, said to VICE News.
Balogun told VICE News that the protest in Oklahoma will be one the biggest events of Black pro-gun rights advocates in years.
"We want to be part of history. We want the generations, the younger kids to understand the timeframe and the importance of recognizing the people that came before them and the sacrifices that they made," Balogun added.

According to the Huey P. Newton's Gun Club website, the organization is made up of a coalition of different groups with a main objective to educate the youth. Their mission "is to educate the masses of people on the necessity of self. That includes self-preservation, self-defense, and self-sufficiency through militant culture. Safety, caution, and attention to detail are at the core of our way of life."
The groups in attendance also aim to draw attention to the Tulsa Race Massacre, a race riot that occurred 100 years ago this year. Commemoration events are underway, and the US Department of Homeland Security warned that white supremacist groups might target the events. In addition, the groups also hope to inform the Black community about how to act during a police interaction, the report said.
Balogun told Vice that the groups credit themselves in part for the spike in gun sales from Black people. As firearm sales boomed in 2020, purchases from Black people also spiked amid the COVID-19 pandemic and racial reckoning in the US.
It sounds great. No bad time to assert gun rights
I would rather celebrate Memorial Day.
I bet 95% of these folks who came to talk about their "sacrifices" arrived in much nicer/newer vehicles than mine.
That should help things. DIVI$IVENE$$.
They did.
And as far as I can tell from the news reports there were no incidents.
People who legally own guns don’t want to lose the right. They don’t commit many crimes.
Excellent!
The more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens, the better.
Every American should be concerned about protecting our God-given liberties. I’m glad to see this group stepping up. The Tulsa Massacre is a great example of why it was enshrined in the Constitution in the first place. It is up to us to defend our lives.
If you knew the history of the Tulsa Massacre, you wouldn’t have engaged in snark. These successful black people, tradesmen and merchants, were butchered.
Most definitely, that was a sacrifice.
They should form an umbrella organization, and call it “Black Guns Matter.”
I’ll wear the t-shirt!
It’s a shakedown pure and simple.
pro gun blacks. wonder if it will affect their voting?
“And as far as I can tell from the news reports there were no incidents.”
Depends on how you define “incidents” - the Tulsa PD issued the following advisory around 5pm local time:
To be clear, this is not an issue with people marching and exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.
This is a traffic issue with a group that received a permit to march during a pre-determined time (6:00 pm) and pre-determined path.
At this time the group is marching through the streets of downtown Tulsa creating traffic issues for motorists.
We are attempting to work with the group to get in compliance with the permit and the traffic regulations.
***End of Update***
Please be advised that there is a significant traffic issue on many streets around the downtown Legacy Fest, the scheduled 2nd Amendment march has gone off of the scheduled path and is now grouping outside of the entrance to the Legacy Fest.
Officials with the Legacy Fest do not want visitors carrying weapons in the Greenwood area and the marchers are demanding entrance into the area.
We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

IMO, had a group of Caucasian gun owners left the defined route of their permit in order to go where they weren’t wanted, the media reports would be all about their “lawless behavior” and “threatening demeanor”. Instead, the media have stuck to their script in order to avoid charges of “racism” and “white fragility”.
I am always uneasy saying happy Memorial Day. But hey, grills are on sale.
Indeed, looking at the ugly past, learning from it, and making things better are the hallmarks of a righteous people. Condoleezza Rice (not exactly a Deplorable) put it best in discussing race relations in America last summer, when some CBS putz tried to maker her say America sucks:
Well, I’ve always thought that America’s greatest strength is that we are a country where you can come from humble circumstances and do great things, and where, despite our painful history, we’ve worked harder and harder every day, brick by brick, to build a more perfect union for all of us. And I would say to those, particularly in places like China and Russia and Iran, who may want to use this for propaganda, let’s not be absurd.
This is not Tiananmen Square where you’ve mowed down people who disagreed with the government. This is not the invasion of Crimea where you took land from your neighbor. This is not the Green Revolution in Iran where you killed people wantonly because they wouldn’t agree with the theocratic government.
Rice continued, “And I would even say to our friends abroad, in places like Europe, where I’m seeing demonstrations in support of what is happening here, thank you for your support, but please look in the mirror. Please ask yourself, in countries in Europe and countries all across the world, what are you doing about racial and ethnic inequality in your own circumstances? America has gotten better because we have been willing to confront our problems. And we’re going to confront our problems again. We’re confronting them now.
“But I really don’t need to be lectured by Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping about peaceful protest when they have themselves used their own force just because people wanted to criticize the government. That is not what is happening here,” she added.
BOOM!!!!
...Self sufficiency through militant culture....
What could go wrong?
I wonder if the Tulsa Race Riot was done by Democrats?
it was an armed black mob that caused the Tulsa riot.
Huey Newton’s Black Panthers were always pro gun rights, to
defend themselves against the police, and to fight for their communist revolution. I knew Black Panthers back in the 1960’s and early 1970’s when I foolishly agreed with their revolution. They were armed.
I’m in favor of American Patriots celebrating their freedom and Constitutional rights whenever and where ever they choose.
The “concerted effort” in the US to cover up the Tulsa Race Massacre
Cover up? I first read of the Tulsa race riot back in 1970, in a book at the Tulsa County Library. PBS(OETA)also had a program of old news film footage showing the riot narrated by Lowell Thomas.
The riot was never covered up, it just was not something on everyone’s mind all the time. Now they are digging open the old scars again.
