Fauci once argued for risky viral experiments — even if they can lead to pandemic

Dr. Anthony Fauci once argued that conducting experiments on contagious viruses to increase their potency was worth the risk, even if the work could accidentally lead to a pandemic, it was revealed Friday.

The nation’s chief medical advisor wrote in the American Society for Microbiology in October 2012 of the public health benefit to gain-of-function viral experiments — which center on manipulating viruses and making them stronger — as long as there is significant oversight.

I'd say that's a "Gotcha".

He knows that COVID is too perfect to be a jump virus.

To me, the question is Why? There is only one answer to that, and it’s because it could be used as a weapon. Why invest all that other people’s money in a virus? Even the stupid liberals can’t ignore this anymore it’s so obvious!

We need to keep pounding on FauxChi and his comrades. A major overhaul of scientific research spending needs to occur. To start, all those monies need to remain in the US. Then, tons of worthless junk science, such climate change, research and dangerous research, like gain of function, needs to be defunded.

It was revealed Friday?

We have had that Fauci gain-of-function quote for at least 15 months.

To my knowledge, no GOP Congress person has ever asked him about that before.

To my knowledge, no GOP Congress person has ever asked Fauci to release his Wuhan emails and documents, either.

We are so freaking weak!

This was his reasoning and defense for finding any way possible to get “gain of function” research done.

When it had to be stopped in the US, he approved funding its continuation through the Chinese government to the tune of huge sums of money.

He probably thought they has enough sense to have “safe practices,” but anyone with any experience with Chinese made stuff should know they don't assure quality in anything.

Fauci actually thought the Chinese government would “do the right thing” and that by giving them the money, it was an overture of trust to break down barriers.

Instead, it simply funded war weapon research on something that could wipe out the human race, whenever China wanted to, because, you see, China didn't have to actually give any research to us China didn't want us to know.

Liberals are all freaking insane.

I don’t understand the medical necessity of increasing the destructive potential of a virus, any virus for that matter. Stronger colds, stronger flu, stronger measles, stronger warts, how about a stronger HIV? Stronger herpes? Encephalitis? I can’t think of any virus that would be good to have stronger versions, unless they are used for population reduction. Then, there are all kinds of possibilities.

(From the article) :" “Dr. Anthony Fauci once argued that conducting experiments on contagious viruses to increase their potency was worth the risk,
..wrote in the American Society for Microbiology in October 2012 of the public health benefit to gain-of-function viral experiments
— which center on manipulating viruses and making them stronger — as long as there is significant oversight. “

He purposely and with intent, evaded any significant oversight by virtue of handing the NIH funding of Wuhan Virology Institute, through Eco Health Alliance (an NGO organization).
That's a fact !

No, there are other possible answers.
First, ever since the Spanish Flu virologists have been fascinated by that pandemic. They see themselves as potential hero’s on a mission to prevent the second coming of the Spanish Flu. GOF is one way they see themselves preventing that.

Second, GOF is a way of achieving academic prestige. A virologist who invents another pandemic bug and produces a vaccine would be at that pinnacle of that career field.

Third, it is an excellent avenue to obtaining research funds. There is no end to GOF research, there would always be new paths to explore, and new research proposals.

That the left has deified Fauci as some sort of ‘keeper of scientific truth’ is beyond pathetic. He is nothing of the sort. He's a guy who went to medical school, essentially never practiced medicine, and has been a government bureaucrat his whole career. His support of gain of function research is indefensible. But, the left love him.

Your comments are all excellent, but the one listed above is key. It also tells you something very important about how broken biomedical science is.

It's very easy to alter the spike protein in a coronavirus. It wouldn't take more than a few weeks to produce engineered corona with an altered binding repertoire because of changes made to the spike protein. It's not 'science', and the techniques involved are fairly pedestrian.

That 'stature' could be earned doing such pedestrian work is a joke.

The question is Why?

Well, he and many of his fellow scientists have gotten filthy rich!

Money is always the first reason to consider. Money and power.

Which he now has both of - in spades!

My old tag line still applies: Bringing deadly viruses out of caves and into labs doesn’t prevent pandemics, it causes them.
