During a moment of silence meant to honor fallen Officer Chris Oberheim on the floor of the Illinois House, state Rep. Carol Ammons (D) spoke about the felon, Darion Lafayette, who died after shooting and killing Oberheim.
Ammons cosponsored a resolution meant to honor Oberheim and create a moment of silence exclusively for the fallen officer.
Ammons said, “Gun violence has plagued our community for far too long. And, this morning, we are standing in recognition of the loss of life of Officer Chris Oberheim.”
She immediately followed up:
But we also have to call to the family who also lost a young man in this incident, Darion Lafayette. I don’t know what happened or what led to this incident. But I know that gun violence is plaguing our communities . And we have to do more to address the over proliferation of guns in our communities as well as to build better relationships between the police and the community.
And, so, I pray that we can come together to address what is actually driving the violence and the murder that is taking place in our communities.
State Sen. Chapin Rose (R) said, “This is despicable. This was a moment of silence meant to honor a fallen hero.”
Oberheim was a 20-year law enforcement veteran. He leaves behind a wife and four daughters, ranging from 13 to early 20s.
Officer Oberheim responded to a domestic disturbance early Wednesday morning where he was shot and killed. Another officer was shot but expected to survive. The suspect, Lafayette, was pronounced dead at the scene after an exchange of gunfire.
Lafayette has been charged with aggravated domestic violence with three different women as well as possession of drugs, including methamphetamine. Under Illinois law, Lafayette cannot legally possess a firearm.

“Gun violence”
She would prefer that her constituents were hacked to death with machetes?
Yeah, ... it’s “gun” violence. My guns have been peaceful for 40 years.
Ugly on the inside and out.
Carol, during a moment of silence it means decent people are respectful and silent. That means STFU. Get it?
Instead, on Wednesday evening, she posted online celebrating Malcolm X’s Birthday:

· A very happy birthday to Malcolm X (el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz). As a lover of history I’m called back to his speech On Afro-American History from 1965:
“But when you go back into the past and find out where you once were, then you will know that you weren’t always at this level, that you once had attained a higher level, had made great achievements, contributions to society, civilization, science, and so forth. And you know that if you once did it, you can do it again...”
Malcolm X and so many others have made me the student of history that I am today. Every piece of legislation I propose is entrenched in historical context. I truly believe that we cannot fix our systems without understanding how and why they were built. I have dedicated my life to this work and I continue to look to giants like Malcolm X for their evergreen wisdom.
Nough said. The pic is worth a thousand words and explains it all.
I don’t think Malcolm X would appreciate being celebrated by an abomination of a politician who seeks to worship and canonize career criminal drug addicts and killers.
“I don’t know what happened or what led to this incident. But I know that gun violence is plaguing our communities”
Another Democrat spouting total ignorance about something they are totally clueless about. What a surprise.
It's those evil guns, turning innocent, peace-loving, patriotic BIPOCs into crazed killers, right, Carol??
Well, happy birfday, Malcolm X-crement!
IIRC The Nation of Islam was opposed to drugs. Is that still the case?
