· A very happy birthday to Malcolm X (el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz). As a lover of history I’m called back to his speech On Afro-American History from 1965:
“But when you go back into the past and find out where you once were, then you will know that you weren’t always at this level, that you once had attained a higher level, had made great achievements, contributions to society, civilization, science, and so forth. And you know that if you once did it, you can do it again...”
Malcolm X and so many others have made me the student of history that I am today. Every piece of legislation I propose is entrenched in historical context. I truly believe that we cannot fix our systems without understanding how and why they were built. I have dedicated my life to this work and I continue to look to giants like Malcolm X for their evergreen wisdom.
I don’t think Malcolm X would appreciate being celebrated by an abomination of a politician who seeks to worship and canonize career criminal drug addicts and killers.
Well, happy birfday, Malcolm X-crement!
