The Texas House and Senate have reached an agreement on a permitless carry bill, lawmakers announced Friday.

Both chambers passed versions the “constitutional carry” bill that would allow Texans 21 and older to carry a handgun without a license as long as they’re not otherwise prohibited from having a firearm. But changes made to House Bill 1927 in the Senate were not agreeable to the House, and a committee made up of representatives and senators was formed to come up with a compromise bill.

The bill’s author Matt Schaefer, R-Tyler, announced that a deal had been reached on Friday afternoon after hinting at the development the night prior.

It should really be 18 and older (are you an adult or aren’t you???), but I guess it’s progress. Particularly since Texas was a no-issue state not that long ago. Good progress is good progress.

Lt. Dan's detractors with hair on fire: "Dan Patrick, poison pill, Dan Patrick poison pill!!"

Constitutional Carry in Texas is about to crest the hill, but it's not done yet, keep praying and calling.

Michelangelo sculpted masterpieces one chip at a time, if this makes it to Abbott's desk, we don't get a chip, rather a chunk.

Worried about what it will do to other states reciprocity.

Time to take all those damned Yankee libtards, tie them on horses backwards, and send them back where they came from.

Nothing. Texas will still have LTC and the reciprocity enjoyed with other states that allow it for those that choose to get "licensed". This bill will allow any Texas resident (don't know about out of state travelers) that is not prohibited from owing a handgun to carry a concealed weapon within the state of Texas where carrying is legal.

Have you noticed its the sheriffs worried about “unlicensed gun owners”.

They are fearful of having concerned American law-abiding citizens exercising their constitutional rights without their oversight.

Too bad! Possibly a concerned American citizen won’t be carrying a body camera!

Why? It doesn't change the Texas handgun carry license.

It only means you do not need one in Texas.

Only a few urban sheriffs.

Most sheriffs supported the bill.

Yep, get it on the books. If the dems can do creeping incrementalism, so can we.

In Constitutional Carry was originally for those 23 or older. Reason being that a key state Senator claimed he knew a 21-year-old who was too irresponsible to let carry. So that’s what we started with. The age currently is 19.

Hope to see Texas join the Constitution club.
