Sabotaging the Canadian-Michigan L5 Pipeline Would Create 'Colonial on Steroids'

“I've given up expecting Michael to do the right thing. Or the decent thing. Or even the comprehensible thing.” -Dwight, The Office (2011)

It has been hard, during the recent gas shortage in parts of the U.S., to feel too bad for the people it’s afflicted. They have swallowed every piece of climate dogma hook, line, and sinker; they have voted resoundingly for failed Democrat policies over and over and again; they rejected the energy independence of President Trump for a zombie politician hellbent on making Jimmy Carter look like he did a good job.

Granted, the recent havoc wreaked because of the Colonial Pipeline shutdown – the spike in prices and the long lines were – was the fault of criminals. But in the Midwest we have similar chaos on underway … but this time an elected official, not hackers, is playing the role of the criminal.

Without proper authority, Michigan’s Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has forced the shutdown of the Line 5 Pipeline that links Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

Operated by the Canadian company Enbridge, the Line 5 Pipeline has for more than 50 years provided essential energy infrastructure to the people of Michigan and the entire Great Lakes area. Whitmer ordered Enbridge to cease operating by May 12 or she would seize the company’s profits because the company was guilty of “trespassing” and “unjust enrichment.”

Obviously, Whitmer’s terrible plans are drawing attention.

Refinery workers whose union dues are (doubtless) funneled to Democrat campaigns are protesting. Five members of Michigan’s congressional delegation have demanded President Biden intervene. Canadian National Resources Minister Seamus O’Regan has argued that this violates a treaty between our two countries. After the Colonial crisis, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm has had a come to Jesus moment on the value of fossil fuels. Even Michigan’s Democratic attorney general, who wants to shut the pipeline down herself, has said Whitmer can’t close Line 5 without a court order.

All this comes at the same time that Whitmer has caught heat for flying a private jet – the worst-polluting device on the planet – from Michigan to Florida. One hopes that the governor will see the light and end up doing the right thing. Or the decent thing. Or even the comprehensible thing. But the more likely outcome is that she will be forced to.

Michigan's 2018 election was a test bed for the wide spread 'big steal' of 2020.

That a single election resulted in a triumvirate of radical leftards is pretty sketchy IMHO.

When hurricane Michael hit, I was without power for three weeks. I had purchased a generator and had 20 gallons of non-alcohol gas with preservative on hand. I didn’t lose any food and I was comfortable while running a window unit air conditioner. My neighbors all had to evacuate.

Now, had there been no power, I’d also have been all right as I have stored food and water. I’m not a prepper, but I always thought having several weeks of consumables was just common sense.

Since then I’ve upgraded on all counts; more fuel, more food, more water. I’m not ready for the collapse of civilization, but I am ready for the collapse of local power and supply.

As we become more technological or society becomes more fragile. We live in amazing comfort, until we don’t. Kill the power in New York, and it becomes unlivable. Kill the power locally where I live and most of the people could make it for a week. But, what then?

“The Straits of Mackinac is a busy shipping channel, with the dual pipelines lying perpendicular to passing ships. In April 2018, a commercial vessel inadvertently dropped and dragged a massive anchor across the pipelines while passing through the Straits. An ‘underwater pipeline inspection video shows deep scoring along the lake bottom, then up and over the twin pipelines,’ the Detroit Free Press later reported. ‘Deep marks are etched in both pipelines, and there is evidence of outer protective coating loss.’

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/05/14/gretchen-whitmer-enbridge-line-5-pipeline-mackinac-time-bomb/

She says something similar happened again.

The simplest thing to do is for Michigan to:
1. outlaw the dropping of any anchor in an area defined by law
2. require any ship with an anchor weighing more than X pounds to have two people verify that the anchor is secure before entering the area.

There is a plan to build a pipeline tunnel, which should be approved by Congress and signed into law by Biden ASAP.

The State of Michigan could station anchor inspection vessels on both sides of the pipeline.

It is unacceptable to needlessly deprive Ontario of vital oil supplies.

Line 5 supplies NatGasLiquids (NGL) essential in making Jet-A fuel for the region.
While the East coast had gasoline supply problems interrupting travel and commerce, imagine Detroit and Chicago limiting \ALL\ flights out to preserve jet fuel.

Planes could land but not fly out.
UPS and FedEx planes grounded as non-essential.
Or, regular flights deemed non-essential.

They have done those two things indicated. And Enbridge has already supposed to have started on the tunnel and was supposed to have been done by 2024.

“or she would seize the company’s profits because the company was guilty of “trespassing” and “unjust enrichment.”

Enbridge has told that c**t to go Eff herself.

They are a Canadian company and she has just about as much clout to stop that as she has to stop the next World War.

BTW, that pipeline supplies 95% of the gas for home use in the UP of Michigan.

BTW, they failed to mention that the incident broke two power cables that cross there, resulting in a wide spread power outage across the area.

What they gonna do> Shut down those power cables also?

We used to call these believers "Zealots".
Now we know them just as mentally ill, and deranged.
Definition of "Insanity: is doing the same action, time after time ,
repeatedly, and expecting a different result".

I remember reading that. I wonder how much of my concern for the fragility of our civilization was created by the “duck and cover” training I got in third and forth grade. My parents stockpiled bleach bottles full of water. We always had canned goods. Also, when hurricanes suddenly blew up, my parents never ran off to the store for those last minute items. We had them in abundance.

But it always made sense to me to have whatever you need in sufficient supply that you never HAD to leave the house. Can’t tell you how many times I was too sick to do anything beyond struggle to the kitchen and back to bed. I never once had to call a friend for supplies. Whereas I have always been on call for my friends. (Frankly, I always give, but I’d have to be nearly dead to ask anyone for help. On two occasions, I had friends call me on a schedule with instructions that if I didn’t answer to call paramedics. Once, a friend did stay with me after surgery until I was ambulatory. That was nice. *Also, he kept my medically stoned ass off eBay or I’d have owned an awesome set of antique cars.*)
