Nikole Hannah-Jones, the New York Times journalist who developed the magazine’s controversial “1619 Project,” will no longer join UNC-Chapel Hill’s journalism department as a tenured professor after the school’s board of trustees expressed concern about awarding tenure to someone outside of academia, according to a new report.
Instead, Hannah-Jones will join the university’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media as a fixed-term “Professor of the Practice,” with the option of being reviewed for tenure within five years, according to the News & Observer. She will serve as the Knight Chair in Race and Investigative Journalism.

The 1619 Project ostensibly acts as if America was founded upon racism when it wasn’t.
But others act as if black slaves magically appeared on the docks of Boston and New York in chains and ready to be sold, as if no one in the Middle East, Asia, Central American empires, etc, were ever involved in the mass enslaving of others.
Only white men and Christian males are responsible for this practice, no people of any other religious persuasion were ever involved and therefore white, Christian men must be persecuted for infinity.
Spain, England, France, the Netherlands, etc. are also exonerated, and slavery only came into being in 1619. /Mega sarcasm.
BLM types never speak of the ongoing chattel slavery of Africans by Muslims in Northern Africa.

Good start. At the very least, it somewhat slows the “tenure” respectability descent velocity to only 1/2 the speed of light.
Tenure is way past it’s sell by date. Back when academia was actually academia, it was not a bad idea. Now it serves exactly the opposite purpose for which it was originally intended. A tenured lib arts prof is a frozen in time turd. (Apologies to the few percent of those types in current universities who actually have talent.)
