Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday he will formally sign an executive order eliminating New Jersey’s 10-month-old outdoor public mask mandate — but he doubled-down on keeping the state’s indoor public mask mandate in place to help protect against the coronavirus despite neighboring states adopting new federal guidance.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced an hour earlier on Monday that his state will follow new federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidance that says fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear face coverings or socially distance in most circumstances both indoors and outdoors.
The CDC announced its update on Thursday. But repeating what he said Friday, Murphy insisted that New Jersey will keep requiring all people, vaccinated or not, to keep wearing masks indoors in public because “we’re still not out of the woods” with the pandemic — even though the Garden State’s COVID-19 numbers have significantly improved as vaccinations have increased.
He also repeated this is temporary and the state will likely relax its indoor mask mandate in “the not-so-distant future” as more people get vaccinated, though he didn’t provide a timeline.
“We just can’t yet because we need to know, unequivocally, that doing so will not lead to a backslide in our progress,” Murphy said.
The governor stressed that “the majority of New Jerseyans are still unvaccinated” and “we’re not checking anyone’s vaccine status at the door when you go to the supermarket or the hardware store.”

This is a real emergency folks. Without masks and fear and panic, Murphy has no reason to suspend in person voting. It may jeopardize his chances of re-election.

if the faithful here at FR think the mail in voting is going to stop with the end of the pandemic fear mongering, think again...five states have conducted primarily mail in voting for several election cycles, and 33 others have it as an option; and like in the Catholic church, once a standard rule is made optional, it generally goes away entirely...

You, as a right-thinking American, are clearly NOT in the majority in NJ. I wasn’t talking about you, I was talking about the 60% - 65% of people who habitually vote for the moron with a “-D” after their name in election after election, no matter how screwed up NJ becomes as a result.
