Republicans have dumped Reagan for Trump

The choice between Elise Stefanik and Liz Cheney for a House Republican leadership post serves as a proxy war between Donald Trump and Ronald Reagan for the soul of the Party.

Reagan and Cheney ā€” and Republicans generally ā€” appear certain to be the losers.

For decades after he left office, Ronald Reagan was a glue that united Republicans, just as Franklin D. Roosevelt was for Democrats. Now Trump dominates the Republican Party; Liz Cheney had the audacity to tell the truth: that Trump lost the last election, which many of her House GOP colleagues are too cowardly to acknowledge.

LOL. One of Reagan’s best lines.

Just like “I won’t hold my opponent’s youth and inexperience against him.”0

It was implied by your 49 reference.

Though Iā€™d add Reagan had an unquestionable landslide in both elections.

He also did have the advantage of great world leaders with him. Thatcher and The Pope. A real Pope. And some other lesser recognized but also great leaders.

You mean the Reagan who signed the illegal immigrant amnesty bill and added millions of new democrats to the voter rolls?

No. Wrong way to put it. We have not and will never “dump” Ronaldus Magnus. Reagan’s policies were overwhelmingly correct for their time. He was a great president.

Reagan did not get us involved in forever wars, we did not have the sell out trade deals in place back then, immigration to the US was much lower then and though Reagan did agree to an amnesty deal, Congress was supposed to seal the border. They refused to uphold their end of the deal.

So in many ways, Trump and the MAGA agenda are merely getting us back to how things were under Reagan in several key areas. It was the RINOs who deviated much more from Reagan’s legacy. Breaking with the RINOs is more of a restoration of Reaganism than a break from it.
