When I first got to Northwestern, I wondered why walking around on campus could be so frustrating. Even when sidewalks were relatively empty, I would often have to walk way around people to pass without bumping into them. At first, I chalked it up to the geographic diversity of the school; maybe the people that came to this school were used to different ways of moving through a public place. But after talking to my Black friends about my experience, they echoed it: people at this predominantly White school would not move out of our way on the sidewalk.
This was one of many reminders that diversity does not mean inclusion at NU. Even though the University has worked to increase the number of Black students here, that doesn’t mean we’re welcomed with open arms.

If you don't get out of the way, you're a racist who is imposing your supremacy.
I think there's a contest to troll America to see who can write the most outlandish crap about racial issues and see how many woke liberals will play along.
Liberals.....
Walking on sidewalk - danger, danger!
Knife fights....good old fashioned fun!
I've never cared what blacks think if I cross the street to avoid them. Too many people get worried they'll appear racist if they do. Who cares what some guy you're never gonna care about thinks of you?
It’s a warm-up to them controlling how we walk after they ban us from driving.
You bet they are!!
Indeed they are. As such, they must be destroyed. I volunteer to pilot the appropriate machine of choice and completely destroy the campus. Since the students & faculty actually walked on those white supremacy walks and have therefore benefited from them, these people must also be destroyed.
Let’s git ‘er done!
More room for us.
Less liberals.
Enhanced productivity.
What’s not to like?
So, any white kids have any stories of being on campus at an historically black college/university?
“...people at this predominantly White school would not move out of our way on the sidewalk.”
Did it not occur to the writer HE should move out of the way?
Sheer arrogance of racist black supremists - feral animals as the terrorist riots have demonstrated.
Well, they made a movie about a guy named Jim Gregory who attended Grambling to be QB. Apparently, we are such as racist-ass country, the QB jobs at even black universities go to whites /s.
The other distinction about what is otherwise a very forgettable movie was that it starred Bruce Jenner before his “transition”.

Was attending a “sensitivity training” session one day during my stint as a teacher in a predominantly black school in NYC. The session leader was going on (to a mostly white audience) about all the cues people send out that indicate the “concerns” people have whenever having interactions with young black males. One such example he used was how a white woman would clutch her purse just a little more tightly when being in the presence of a young black male on a subway. Without missing a beat, one of the black woman teachers said, “I clutch my purse, too.”
Everyone (except the session leader) laughed.
It’s only a matter of time they’ll want us to kowtow backwards in their presence as the servants did in imperial China.
Do not hire Northwestern grads, tell them why.
I’m white and have had to go off the sidewalk when other white people wouldn’t move over so no, it’s not a racial thing, it’s a “no manners” thing.
The Stranger within my gate,
He may be true or kind,
But he does not talk my talk—
I cannot feel his mind.
I see the face and the eyes and the mouth,
But not the soul behind.
The men of my own stock,
They may do ill or well,
But they tell the lies I am wonted to,
They are used to the lies I tell;
And we do not need interpreters
When we go to buy or sell.
The Stranger within my gates,
He may be evil or good,
But I cannot tell what powers control—
What reasons sway his mood;
Nor when the Gods of his far-off land
Shall repossess his blood.
The men of my own stock,
Bitter bad they may be,
But, at least, they hear the things I hear,
And see the things I see;
And whatever I think of them and their likes
They think of the likes of me.
This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf—
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.
Just Stop, see if they walk into you.
Really, it’s got nothing to do with race. Peoples’ behavior on the sidewalk is a dominance hierarchy game. If they get you to move out of the way, they have displayed their dominance in the social hierarchy. If you don’t like it, then just don’t get out of the way, and let them know you are willing to force a collision or awkward confrontation if they don’t get out of your way. Then you win the silly little game.
Thanks to COVID, I now win this stupid game every time just by refusing to wear a face mask. They all get out of my way automatically!
I'm beginning to wonder if supermarket aisles in Central and South America average 20 yards in width . No matter how large the family they insist on walking the aisles side by side like a Roman Phalanx advancing on a tribe of barbarians. To complicate matters, it seems "Excuse me" translates roughly to "Ignore me, I am but an apparition, a vision in the mist which you can walk through without a care..." in their language.
I have taken to embracing my inner D-Day from Animal House with a klaxon sounding and the immortal cry of "Ramming Speed!" going through my head as I attempt to bowl over as many of these Guacamolean bollards as I can. There usually ensues a robust conversation in their native tongue to which I cheerily reply "¡Tu Madre! which some of my Mexican friends assure me is a jovial greeting and a wish for health and happiness.
Some people never leave the 9th grade, emotionally speaking.
Screw the sidewalks. I almost always crawl through the grass with a knife clenched between my teeth.
