This is crazy. I stopped for gas just now having no idea what was happening. It’s out. People here told me they’d been to other stations and found the same. pic.twitter.com/7LDVdUXPo4
I suspect that Pipeines are over-regulated by the gooberment.
Here’s the thing, the “Internet” rides on many paths that existed decades ago. There really isn’t an “Internet” as far as a network goes. Many segments where built on routing technologies for the Internet, but they are used for many things. All those microwave, satellite, fiber, copper, and other communication mediums make up today’s Internet. It looks seamless and high-tech, but it’s a lot of old-tech wired together.
DING! Winner. Add non-patched HTTP Servers that are easily compromised and act as launch points to a company's internal network to that list and it's pretty complete.
No crisis should be wasted as the Marxists say. Watch for the Biden cabal to use this as a reason to boost gas prices and push electric cars. Don’t think for a minute that the Biden cabal will do anything to secure our vital pipeline system...remember Biden’s first executive order on Inauguration Day was to kill the mostly completed Keystone XL pipeline.
I was wondering if a VPN would be nearly as secure as an air-gapped private network.
If it is what my IT friends say it is, all of our infrastructure is at risk.
Yes, that is what I think. Since their ability to control us is waning as the Chinese flu diminishes, their next big effort will be to control all travel, to include that for goods and services, so we’ll have some breath-taking inflation. Then, at their agreed-upon timing before the mid-terms, the dems will act like they solved everything, send everyone some more cash, and take credit for their heroism in saving the USA.
If it is what my IT friends say it is, all of our infrastructure is at risk.
I know, I was an ISP back in the mid to late 90’s. :-) The bundle of technologies that deliver the Internet has just grown since then. It’s like one big ball of twine.
Mr. GG2 filled my car up yesterday at $3.14 per gallon. I’m sure sure the gas is gone by now. He’s out hunting diesel for his monster Dodge Ram 2500.
Russia and China have CITIES full of professional, government paid “hackers” that are continually attacking EVERYTHING.
Don’t forget North Korea and Iran. Then there are the anti-social nerds in their parents basement who inhabit the dark web and hacker forums.
I consider myself to be fairly smart and, though not in the IT field, know quite a bit about technology. I don't even know what "nothing is air-gapped in our infrastructure" means.
I produce and sell crude oil, the most I can get on a truck is 185 barrels. Not sure about refined products, they’ll have different weights.
Depends on implementation and hardware.
Or, and it’s more money, a dedicated leased-line is still an option for security.
It’s Biden’s fault!
Are you familiar with a hacker called Cat Turd? He and another one I can’t think of have reported tracking this back to the FBI.
The only way to be sure nobody will remotely hack into your system is for your system to not be plugged into a network, or plugged into the internet. If your system or network is not plugged into the internet or any external connectivity, it is said to be ‘air-gapped’ because there’s a literal air gap between the ethernet port on the computer/switch and any internet connectivity.
Problem is dealing with a generation who believes food just miraculously appears pre-wrapped in stores. They have absolutely no concept understanding about the fact it needs to be processed and hauled or they would not have any. They actually have some idea we do not need trucks at all yet food will keep showing up without them.
I’d say they are green hats, and wonder if they were dumb enough to use their own Department of Energy computers or did it from a Internet cafe? :)
>>> If you want to put on tin foil, maybe the impetus for this attack is for Bidet to waive the Jones Act, which requires ships to be built and flagged in the U.S. and crewed by American workers to transport goods between U.S. ports. <<<
Uh... NO.
That is too much like MAGA.
