Top U.S. fuel pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline has shut its entire network after a cyberattack, the company said in a statement on Friday.
Colonial's network supplies fuel from U.S refiners on the Gulf Coast to the populous eastern and southern United States. The company transports 2.5 million barrels per day of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other refined products through 5,500 miles of pipelines.
Colonial Pipeline says it transports 45 percent of East Coast fuel supply.
The company learned of the attack on Friday and took systems offline to contain the threat, it said in the statement. That action has temporarily halted operations and affected some of its IT systems, it said.
The company has engaged a third-party cybersecurity firm to launch an investigation, and Colonial has contacted law enforcement and other federal agencies, it said.
Colonial did not give further details or say for how long its pipelines would be shut.
The operator had shut its main gasoline and distillate lines, Reuters reported earlier on Friday.
During the trading session on Friday, Gulf Coast cash prices for gasoline and diesel edged lower.

Fill your tanks on the east coast!
East coast Democrats are reducing their carbon footprint.
I had heard that a broad-based cyber-attack was planned for this summer, targeting supply chains. The rumor was that shortages would occur all over the country for many varieties of items just because supply chains would be disrupted.
Not sure if this is the start, a test run, or unrelated.
As of 1420 hours South Jersey is 2.99 a gallon.
Attack by whom? That’s the big question. Biden or China or homegrown morons?
As if I can afford to now.
“Cheap” gas is $2.86 and rising every couple days.
Don’t forget the Norks or the Iranians. Neither are as sophisticated as the Chinese, but for either to hack into our pipeline network would be a feather in their cap.

Ya - on account of the BILLING SOFTWARE couldn’t properly identify which endpoint was getting the ‘gas’ (gasoline).
What do you want to bet?
And pipeline safety not being a factor ...
re: “Fill your tanks on the east coast!”
YA - create an artificial shortage early-on ...
We had that happen in the Dallas area a few years ago, EVERYONE raced to fill their tanks and the stations ran short of gas ...
Irrespective of cyber attacks, from a national security standpoint none of our fuel manufacturing refineries are placed where any national security expert would suggest they ought to be.
For instance, someone wanting to take out the refineries in Elizabeth/Linden area of NJ would also likely be taking out the main East Coast north-south Interstate route (I-95), the only East Coast north-south rail line (Amtrack tracks & also used by NJTransit), and likely Newark Airport access in the process.
Hurricanes take out the New Orleans area refineries from time to time. A better plan would have been longer pipelines for the crude deliveries from the gulf to refineries set much further north inland to where hurricanes are usually reduced to mere tropical storm status. How to do that and minimize the needed capital investment? Use the eminent domain power for land along north-south highways.

The conspiracy theory rumor I am alluding to is that is in the vein of the Pandemic. Basically, it's China. But also Biden. It's a way to further cripple the US, so that the globalists (our country is not run by Americans) can rise up and own and control all the people everywhere.
Just as Gates and friends had a "simulated pandemic" exercise just before COVID hit, I believe the US has planned a "simulated cyber-attack" on our supply chains. Will that turn into an actual cyber-attack on our supply chains that devastates our country and pushes us further into communism? I expect it.
They’re trying to make sure hyperinflation hits. Bank of America says it’s already coming but will be “temporary.” Everyone is flush with government money and millions of people aren’t working because unemployment is so good: the result, low supply and high demand, hence “hyper inflation.” Taking out major fuel lines or slowing supplies, like the ChiComs are doing with their containers, is obviously designed to accelerate the process.
Maybe even within the Beltway.....
Prices of electric cars will jump way up.
“Prices of electric cars will jump way up.”

Until they figure out they’ll need the wind blowing really hard to come up with the electricity to recharge them...

If it was ransomware (likely) it is North Korea.
