Victim surveys are generally considered to be the best gauge of the actual level of crimes.
Which is why you don't compare a poor gauge to the best gauge and call the difference "33 times as many" occurrences.
Can you specify which of the sources I compared is a "poor gauge".
For Sweden I linked to the official crime victimization study produced by Brå, the statistics arm of the Swedish Ministry of Justice.
For the U.S. I provided a link to the equivalent official crime victimization study of the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics.
If I did the math wrong, please go ahead and correct my math. And if you know of a better source for crime victimization statistics than the ones I provided well then (to quote the sage) "Ahm all ears".
Fair point. I should have just told you that you used the wrong word (the data I provided was not for reported crimes) and left it at that.
