SHOULD WE LET CHINA CONTROL OUR ENERGY SUPPLY?

So environmentalists contemplate the greatest explosion of mining in world history, while at the same time blocking any mines from being developed in the U.S. or Europe.

We are on a collision course with a multi-faceted disaster:

1) Governments mandate electric vehicles and other “green” energy measures even though the mandates cannot possibly be met.

2) Trillions of dollars are spent in a futile effort to satisfy those mandates, enriching a handful of politically connected developers, lobbyists and utilities but impoverishing the rest of us.

3) The materials necessary for the “green revolution” may or may not exist on the planet Earth, but to the extent they do exist, they are largely controlled by the Communist Chinese.

4) The CCP therefore will be vastly enriched by the rising prices for metals and rare earths that they control, while at the same time we are giving them a veto over our ability to function which they no doubt will use to enhance their geopolitical power. Maybe Joe Biden is so stupid that he doesn’t understand this. Maybe not.

5) Finally, the whole “green” edifice will come crashing down in disaster as energy becomes prohibitively expensive, putting our industry at a decisive disadvantage vis-a-vis China and other countries, the longed-for batteries are not available at any price, and it becomes obvious to even the dumbest environmentalist that the whole “green revolution” was a pathetic fantasy.

That is the path we are on, and America’s entire establishment, from public elementary schools on, is committed to this road to disaster. The endgame is not in doubt. “Green energy” will collapse in ignominious failure. But the damage done along the way will be incalculable, and may well lead the the U.S. forfeiting its position as the world’s #1 economic power.

If they cared about the environment they’d want more production in America, a country with actual laws against pollution and less need to transport goods across the ocean.

What we need is a nuclear energy revolution in this country and an end to NIMBY laws and nuisance lawsuits that are preventing the construction of newer, better, safer, and cleaner nuclear power plants. Further, there needs to be an end to the Federal ban on reusing “spent” fuel. There’s no reason not to allow power plants to extract ALL the energy from their fuel.

With a large scale national effort and no stupid short-sighted “environmentalists” in the way, we could replace all existing coal, oil, and nuclear power plants in the country with brand new reactors within 10 years, then enjoy 70+ years of clean, safe, cheap, reliable power. No reliance on China. No concerns about air pollution or coal slurry, and with reuse of fuel authorized, very little waste product.

If they cared about the environment they’d want to stop all immigration into the country

Sure why not, they already control the election system via the Democrats; only a handful of people tried to do anything about that, so what’s a little energy between friends, eh?

We could continue where we left off in 1973 with safer thorium reactors that can't go critical meltdown like uranium. Thorium's lack of any relation to weapons applications might explain it being blacked out as an energy source.

According to some it's possible to have a Ph.D in nuclear reactor technology and not know about thorium energy.

CANDU power plants (Canadian design) can already use a thorium fuel cycle. At least in theory. I don’t know of any that are actually using it at this point because of the additional complexity. Those plants are already highly resistant to weaponizing fuel.

The biggest benefit of thorium is its abundance. We could run the entire planet’s power off thorium reactors for thousands of years.

We have plenty in Alaska....

https://www.miningnewsnorth.com/story/2019/06/01/critical-minerals/alaska-is-rich-in-critical-rare-earths/5750.html

The question is will the EPA allow us to go for it and is that before or after all the hogs get the best place at the trough aka AK and DC politican's and their relatives.

Yes I am that cynical...
