AUSTIN, Texas β€” Texas would allow people to carry a handgun without a license, and the background check and training that go with it, under a measure approved by the state Senate on Wednesday.

Texas already has some of the loosest gun laws in the country and has more than 1.6 million handgun license holders. Lawmakers have reduced classroom and shooting range training requirements over the last decade, but had been reluctant to eliminate the license requirement altogether.

Most cops are fully on-board with this.

The police are not your friend.

“Each house has to read it three times on three different days.”

Not according to this: https://tlc.texas.gov/docs/legref/legislativeprocess.pdf

Look at the flow chart on page 15 on the action after a favorable conference committee report.

It’s true. I won’t get into details, but the cops will bury anyone that tries to defend themselves on their property.

It may be possible. I am usually optimistic, but I have my doubts on this one.

Look at the mccloskeys. TX cops will lie on the stand or worse against home owners. Seen it.

I think some version will go through.

Lots of push behind it.

It may be only 80% of what was wanted, but 80% is pretty good, after several years.

Moreover, 80% means it is much easier to get the last 20% later.

I will know more tomorrow. (inside source)

It’s now or never I think, and the Reps need to know that. TX has always been #1 in gun rights NAME but always around 30 out of 50 in LAW.

We need to have rifle clubs back in the schools. That’s where I learned to shoot properly and gun safety was drilled into us. And guess what...we never shot one person!

We used to come in from duck hunting in the morning with shotguns in the gun racks of our trucks. We also had a rifle club in junior high.

Our junior high annual has a picture of the Rifle Club and they are all standing there outside the cafeteria with a few guns (mostly .22’s) in the picture on school grounds.

I’m optimistic is will pass in the House. More than enough reps voted for it and they know the potential game of poison pills. They can easily pass the senate version and should. It’s not that bad of a bill.

The secret of TX weapon laws are they were setup in the late 1800’s to ban Indian weapons. Tomahawks are banned by name and it’s always been a racist/anti-freedom measure.

Yes, our picture was in the annual. Our instructor was my Biology teacher and a former Marine and we used surplus Marine grade .22s that weighed about 14 pounds. So we learned right. And if we broke even the smallest safety rule, he was on us like...well...a Marine. LOL!
