As Tank Battalions Shut Down, Dozens of Marines Are Joining the Army

More than 450 Marines' careers have been affected by a forcewide redesign that launched last year as the Corps reorganizes to take on new threats, sending hundreds into new career fields, early retirement, or even Army tank units.

Commandant Gen. David Berger issued his first annual update to the forcewide redesign he announced in March 2020. The changes center around making the Marine Corps lighter and more expeditionary to take on new threats from sea and ashore.

Tank battalions, bridging companies and law enforcement units were slashed as part of the plan. Marines in those jobs are being told to find new military occupational specialties, or MOSs; consider another service; or opt to end their careers earlier than planned.

The Pentagon, etc. supposed leaders are purposefully further weakening our military under the guise/LIES of “strengthening” it, etc.

A lighter, expeditionary force, eh?

In reading that, I see the recurring idea of ‘a firefighter’, as was thought after WW1. The idea of global combat, or 2 ocean war, was not yet realized.

The tanks, etc./ALL weapons of war will be used to kill and mass-murder Americans via the CIA and the foreigners they bring in and LOTS of other domestic enemies.

Anyone else feel like it’s the late 1930s and Stalin has just purged the military and reduced its effectiveness?

They signed up to kill hadji, and since the military wouldn’t deploy them much anymore, they got out.

Most active-duty military personnel never get deployed to a war zone. They should have considered that before signing up.

"Marines are going to also kill off artillery."

Damn, no battlefield armor and no artillery - now at the mercy of if/when the Air Force shows up for CAS.

There are many ways to destroy the military and we see a lot of them in use now.

Basically from the Revolution until WWII and the DoD, we had Department of War (Army) and Department of the Navy, which included the Marines. The President could generally do what he wanted as needed in pursuing American interests with the Marines, without a declaration of war. Anything big enough to involve the Army, the President needed to involve Congress and get a declaration of war.

This ended with WWII and the overarching DoD, but we lost a good system that allowed Presidential executive freedom of action up to a point, beyond which Congress needed to be involved.

The proliferation of good anti-tank missiles and recoilless rifles may spell the end of the traditional uses of armor. Same with attack choppers.

The same thing was said back in 1970. Did not happen and won't happen. The best time to have a tank is when the other guy does not. We must never be the other guy.

Hi.

I hope you are doing well.

Imho, ya got to have tanks, arty, Grunts, and most important air dominance.

The only way an adversary stops you is if they have tactical nukes.

From the movie “To Hell and Back”

Infantry soldier: Hey Mack, how thick is the armor on this tank?

Tanker: About 3-inches.

Infantry soldier: Wow 3-inches, that must be nice

Tanker: You won’t think that if we run into some Tigers.

Infantry soldier: How thick do you think this GI shirt is?

Another business the Marines are gone from. I don’t know it’s exact specialty title but they will no longer be running wire for field communications. It’s all wireless now.

My Artillery Officer Basic class at Ft. Sill in 1978 was 50% USMC with most headed to 29 Palms, a place I didn’t even know existed until then. Most were not looking forward to the posting, especially since they were all Annapolis grads who thought they would be in the Fleet Marine Force.

Reduction of firepower & support will not have optimal results, IMO.

with 211 rounds, 4 bombs, and limited fuel in their multi-million dollar F-35s from 10,000 ft. Sure to be a troop life saver /s.

This is more Perfumed Prince think tank crap which looks good on paper - getting rid of expensive equipment: arty like HIMARS, MIA2 SEP V3s, and their maintenance bills. Troops will NOT love it as hot shrapnel pierces their “light” vehicles, while enemy arty rains down on them, as they busily call the Army for arty support and the AF for CASS, praying that their assets aren’t too busy elsewhere, which they likely will be. This just before their comms are jammed
