Reaching ‘Herd Immunity’ Is Unlikely in the U.S., Experts Now Believe
New York Times ^ | May 3, 2021 | Apoorva Mandavilli

Now, more than half of adults in the United States have been inoculated with at least one dose of a vaccine. But daily vaccination rates are slipping, and there is widespread consensus among scientists and public health experts that the herd immunity threshold is not attainable — at least not in the foreseeable future, and perhaps not ever.

Those who do not choose vaccination have an obligation to their fellow man to contract the disease.

For those under 30 they should be out mingling close every day.

All others, go to a movie and dinner.

Gitter done.

Sure.... let’s stay locked down. Keep paying people to stay home. Wear masks. Destroy culture. Destroy any joy in life, because, fear.
Leftists cannot stand a free people. And piss upon all fear mongers.

Here we are 18 months later and we still don’t have people dying in the streets. The hospitals are not overwhelmed. I don’t see anyone who is sick from COVID. I had it in December and 6 people in my house all had it. Now it is over for us. It was not life-threatening. I also got the Pfizer 2-shot. It wasn’t life-threatening either. We don’t have the potential for millions of deaths just as we didn’t at the beginning. The total number of deaths accorded to COVID is rising very slowly. In November the Democrats were saying Trump killed half a million people and 6 months later it is 60,000 more. But nobody knows anything. It’s all an abundance of caution.

This article essentially implies that only vaccinations can help us get to herd immunity. They seem to forget that people who get the virus and survive are now immune to that strain, and possibly others.

The article also seems to attempt to play two hands at once: 1. Variants will prevent herd immunity, but 2. Get vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. So are they saying the current vaccine will prevent all variants? I don’t think the vaccine will stop all variants. Therefore, some form of this virus is going to be around for a long time regardless of vaccinations.

There is no herd immunity to influenza, for example.

Always trust the experts part 1:

Imperial College, self-described as "China's best academic partner in the west," predicted Taiwan, China's oldest adversary, would experience 179,828 COVID deaths if they didn't lock down. Taiwan had no lockdown and had 10 COVID deaths, a 1,798,180% error.https://t.co/l8MlaRw1uH— Michael P Senger (@MichaelPSenger) April 22, 2021

I will be interested in seeing what happens during the next corona virus season, may next fall or winter. Who gets sick? What are the symptoms? Mortality rate? It should instruct us as to the vaccine efficacy and short-term effects.

“’Herd Mentality’, on the other hand . . .”

You are so right about that. It’s even affected people here on FR. Amazing how effective the programmers are, not only are the programmed brainwashes they become activist zealots for the programmers and shun and cancel those who aren’t programmed. It’s an amazing thing to witness.

Aside from the Ivermectin, that is substantially what I do daily.

Me too. Vitamin C, D, and Zinc with Quercetin.

“Those who do not choose vaccination have an obligation to their fellow man to contract the disease.”

Don’t be a pompous ass. I’m not getting the injection and I have no rational or moral obligation to get covid.

When did people become herd animals?

When they elected BidenFauxci as president.

Ha. Exactly my thought too. RECALL THAT FAUCI ADMITTED THAT HE LIED ABOUT THE PERCENTAGE IT TAKES TO REACH HERD IMMUNITY. Freepers know this right?

These 12 ZIP codes in Dallas have reached 80% herd immunity threshold

Analysts are updating forecast for reaching herd immunity in Dallas County. PCCI believes slowing vaccination trends will lead to delays.

April 28, 2021
By: Demond Fernandez

DALLAS — The lines for COVID-19 vaccine remain busy at the Fair Park hub, though demand for doses is on a downward trend. That reality is affecting projections for reaching herd immunity in Dallas County.

There was a steady flow of vehicles filing in and out of the Fair Park vaccination hub on Wednesday afternoon.

”The process was quick. It was fast,” Jorge Perez said as he waited after receiving his first dose of the vaccine.

Some residents say getting the vaccine means moving one step closer to gatherings with the family after a year of isolation.

"It kind of sucked not being able to be around your family. So, it’s really important to be able to do that now,” Ruby Goana explained.

Reaching herd immunity in Dallas County is a different challenge.

One day after the CDC recommended it may be safe for people to remove masks in some public spaces and among small groups, local analysts are urging the public to continue using precautions.

"There’s some good news and some bad news,” said Dr. Steve Miff, President and CEO of Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation, or PCCI.

The agency is updating its forecast for reaching herd immunity in Dallas County. Instead of its initial projection of mid-June, Dr. Miff said the current vaccination numbers show the threshold may be reached by late June or further into July.

”The good news is we’ve made great progress to date, and currently we are at 64% toward that target of 80 for herd immunity. So, that’s the good news.” Miff explained.

The bad news is, week after week, progress in distributing vaccines is significantly slowing down, despite ample supply.

The data shows 12 ZIP codes in Dallas County have already reached the 80% herd immunity threshold, according to PCCI. Those ZIP codes include:

1. 75082
2. 75159
3. 75182
4. 75201
5. 75202
6. 75204
7. 75207
8. 75208
9. 75225
10. 75235
11. 75247
12. 75251

Analysis also suggests the greatest opportunity for vaccination is among working populations. Especially for people ages 18 to 29 and ages 30 to 50. According to PCCI, vaccinations across those age groups, in Dallas County, are lagging 10 to 15 points below the national average.

"We’re in a sprint here. We need to be able to able to get to those levels where we can contain and crush COVID ahead of giving the virus more and more chances to mutate,” Dr. Miff said.

Analysts and health officials are urging everyone to research and consider getting the vaccine.

Is my understanding correct in that “experts” are only counting those who have been vaccinated when calculating herd immunity? That having contacted COVID and recovered is not included?
