Herd Immunity? A complete fallacy.
Through a couple of thousand years of work, we have found cures for a few medical hiccups. The covid is not new. The first covid cases have been around for centuries. Ain’t got them killed yet. Look at the black plague. It kicked off in the 1300’s and is still around today. We get cases of it in the northwest every year.
The whole thing is speculation and trying to create the theory of herd immunity artificially is laughable as the virus changes until it kills itself. This hit the US in late 2019 and have been morphing ever since. We are told about the ones from the British Islands and from South America. Any more? Flip a coin. Gonna stop them? Flip a coin.

As vaccinations and natural infections continue to accumulate, how could we not reach herd immunity thresholds? It is not calculus, just simple addition.
The performance curves are becoming well known. We can see the tracks in Israel, the UK, the USA and elsewhere.
We are entering the window of growing herd immunity effects now, and as you point out, subpopulations are likely further along already, such as areas that were highly infected early on, like NYC.
