The 2020 U.S. Census Bureau report showed New York was 89 residents short of keeping all 27 congressional members.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he is "looking into legal options" after the recently released U.S. Census Bureau report showed the state was just 86 residents short of keeping its 27 congressional members.
"Do I think [the census] was accurate to within 89? No," the Democratic governor said. "And we’re looking at legal options, because when you’re talking about 89, that could be a minor mistake in counting."
New York and California, another Democratic stronghold, each lost a seat following the release Monday of the 2020 Census report.
However, finding 89 uncounted residents will be a difficult task, according to Politico. New York has unsuccessfully challenged previous Census results in the Supreme Court.
"New York has challenged the Census before over undercounting from the 1970s through the 2000s, and each time, the Supreme Court has rebuffed the state’s efforts," said New York Law School senior fellow Jeff Wice. "Massachusetts and Utah have also challenged the apportionments … and they’ve also had their lawsuits rejected."
Cuomo blamed what he thinks was an undercount on former President Trump and said the federal government had a "chilling effect" on undocumented residents who were nervous to come forward last year and be counted.
Other states that lost House seats include Illinois, Michigan and Ohio, while Texas gained two and Florida, Montana and North Carolina were among states to each gain one seat.
How about he changes tax and other laws in the state, and aim for regaining that seat in 10 years?
There ARE no legal options.
Period.
Break the law, Andrew! You have never exhibited any reticence to do so before!
But, Cuomo believes all of the vote totals in his state that went for Democrats.
I nominade Jerrold Nadler’s seat for the one lost in NY and Adam Schiff’s seat for the one lost in CA.
Here is a legal option: Cut taxes and regulations.
If he didn’t kill all of the elderly in the nursing home maybe he’d still have enough population to keep that seat...
There are no legal options, except for him to resign. He got away with the nursing home deaths, and the bimbo eruptions.
Senior douche bag
You recount now you will be 40,000 short what with the deaths and people who moved out.
LMAO, like a typical Leftist who can’t accept anything.
Yo, CoumoIdiot, you got issues, NYC got issues, NY got issues, and all those issues. have issues.
Here’s a thought:
Hit your local KMart.
A Bluelight Special on Kleenex.
Buy some?
KKthx.!
RECOUNT!!
At least 275,000 people were missed in AZ. The Census estimate of population here in 2018 was 7.15m, two years later the official count is near the same. We have been consistently adding 120-140k year after year. Growth here is out of control.
AZ got screwed out of it’s 10th House seat.
That’s what I wonder. Isn’t the census count final? Isn’t the process for apportioning seats a long established and presumeably fair procedure? Or at least it’s fair unless some Democrat protests about it?
If we are going to go there, then maybe California should get another seat, due to missed illegal aliens in the census count. But then, another border state, Texas, could get another seat due to missed illegals there, if they really want to go down that road. But the Democrats don’t want a state such as Texas to get more seats.
If somehow Cuomo had a legal case to make, then some other state would have to lose a seat to give back to New York. What would the reaction of that state be? More lawsuits?
Take out the 200,000 illegals who responded and the number would be 200,089
Just annex Vermont.
Democrats: the laws don’t apply to us
Ironically Cuomo would have had the 89 extra people in NY to keep from losing a seat IF he had not killed thousands with his horrible nursing home Covid policy.
