Government at work. Hey, we have one very large air tanker that is incredible useful at fighting fires, but we’re not using it now because it’s not fire season. However, we have a need for air cargo Aircraft, where thousands of them exist in the private sector and thousands more in the military to fly Covid supplies around. Let’s get rid of the one aircraft fire fighting tanker we actually need and converted to fly some vaccines around, instead of letting companies like Amazon, FedEx, UPS or the military handle that.

“Crooks, thieves, swindlers and entitlements.” - In other words, Congress.

BTW, you forgot the perverts. They get their share.

I must have missed it - did anyone see how they might use it to fight a non-pandemic? All I saw was info on dropping fire retardant - maybe they plan on using it to spread spike proteins to infect those who refuse the jab.

Pretty sure it’s privately owned, and the problem lies in lefty governors leaving it sit in the ground. Lars Larson harps on it every year.

Never mind - I saw the blurb I missed...here’s my new response:

So, this is the only aircraft available to “distribute vaccines” without waiting on ships, to fight a non-pandemic? Maybe they plan on using it to spread spike proteins to infect those who refuse the jab.

Crooks, thieves,....

...perverts should be listed next, because there are fewer swindlers, that takes brains and cleverness,

Plenty of aircraft just sitting at Pinal Air Park, about 30 miles NW of Tucson.

So they are taking a tanker aircraft out of service just before fire season starts because it doesn’t produce a profit. What about AMTRACK? USPS?

And how is an aircraft going to help with covid?

California and other states have contracts with the builder of the firefighting plane. Granted the terms are not in the article but presumably they put this on reserve for those times when needed. With a very dry summer coming, and likely a ‘severe drought’ to be declared in the state maybe the owners are angling to get a better deal by threatening to sell it. But surely we should both honor our deal, whatever it is, and make sure we have tools to put out wild fires.

So they are taking a tanker aircraft out of service just before fire season starts because it doesn’t produce a profit. What about AMTRACK? USPS?

From the article:

After investing tens of millions into upgrading the Global SuperTanker and its technology, the revenue coming mostly from contracts with the U.S. government and California did not produce enough profit for the company to continue the funding the tanker, said Roger Miller, managing director at Alterna Capital Partners LLC, the investment company that owns the plane.

AMTRAK and USPS are not privately owned, like this aircraft is.

It says right in the OP: I don't know the terms of the contracts. But clearly it isn't profitable, or, it's a hustle by the plane's owner(s). Or something else. Maybe some sheikh wants a plane with a swimming pool.

Let's get back to my comment on your original post.

California screwing itself again. Just got how many billions in ‘free covid money’, but can’t pay for the plane they ordered?

They didn't order the plane. They don't own they plane.

Correct. I never said they did. Maybe my wording was sloppier than usual. What I was trying to say was that there is a reason they contracted the plane; and losing access to it would be a mistake especially this summer and fall.

from the article, superficial info:

” the Connecticut-based firm has received several offers to buy the SuperTanker and turn it into a freight carrier aircraft, Miller said.

“The COVID crisis has led to a huge boom in the aircraft freighter market flying around PPE, flying around vaccines...”

Thanks - I noticed it after my post...I’d wager that there’s not as much call for all that carrying capacity for PPE anymore - maybe they’re also carrying “toxic waste” bins for the used masks and gloves....oh.....wait....
