OPEN Republican-led states Texas and Florida are reporting fewer Covid-19 cases than the likes of New York, Michigan, and Pennsylvania - which all still have restrictions and mask mandates in place.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott faced fierce scrutiny for reversing the Lone Star State's mask mandate on March 10 and completely reopening its economy, with President Biden calling the move "neanderthal thinking".
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also faced criticism for "endangering" his state's most vulnerable residents when he permitted businesses to reopen in September without enforcing mask-wearing.
However, each of the two Republican-led states has managed to keep case positivity rates down while also kick-starting their economic recoveries.
Meanwhile, Democrat-fronted Pennsylvania, New York and Michigan - who are all still bound to ongoing coronavirus restrictions - have led the daily increases in Covid-19 cases, data shows.
Between March 29 and April 4, the three blue states along with New Jersey accounted for 44 percent of all new infections - or around 197,500 of the 452,000 cases reported nationwide during that time.
Data from the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) shows that Michigan has become the nation's latest hot-spot for infections and hospitalizations.
In the last seven days, the state reported 390.2 cases of the virus per 100,000.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has blamed the surge on spring breakers returning to the state from Florida.
Whitmer has urged anyone returning from the Sunshine State to isolate at home for a week or have their children learn remotely for at least seven days.
But other factors accelerating the virus' spread include more contagious variants - such as the "super mutation" of coronavirus found in Britain - having a stronger hold in Michigan than in other states.
Pennsylvania is also currently grappling with a troubling rise in infections and hospitalizations, with state health officials reporting 221.4 cases per 100,000 in the last week.
New York City, meanwhile, has reported 206.1 cases per 100,000 in the last seven days, while the rest of the state has accounted for 176.4 cases per 100,000 over the last week.
That number represents a 24 percent drop for the week ending Sunday, declining from 42,318 to 32,181 new cases over the past two weeks.
However, data from Johns Hopkins University shows New York is still ranked the 10th among states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis.
"New Yorkers are staying safe, getting vaccinated, and following the public health guidance, and we're seeing a decrease in the numbers as a result of their efforts," Gov. Andrew Cuomo assured in a statement Sunday.
But New Yorkers are said the be growing increasingly frustrated with Cuomo's mask mandate and other Covid-19 measures, including capped capacity for indoor dining.
The Biden administration has repeatedly stressed the importance of mask-wearing and pushed for mandates to be enacted nationwide.
I was in Panama City Beach today. It was awesome going into stores and seeing people’s smiling faces.
A few Yankees were there wearing their masks, but we left them alone. Personal choice and all that.
But it was a beautiful day at the beach. I’ve needed that for a long time.

Actually today’s daily doom from the PA Department of Health contained two pieces of good news:
Hospitalizations are down 5% from Saturday and have returned to the level of April 14; and, more significantly, the positivity ratio has declined 10% from one week ago.
Good news, bad news, doesn’t matter. Tommie the Commie Wolf wants his state locked down and masked up.
My wife and I had lunch at Fort Myers Beach today. There is a myriad of restaurants and shops in the area. 99.99% of the people were MASKLESS. Inside the restaurants and shops and of course outside as well.
Visiting Fort Myers Beach was so very refreshing and invigorating. Here life is NORMAL. No one freaking out over YOU’RE NOT WEARING A MASK!!!!!!! Just Americans enjoying and living life. It was a wonderful experience. My wife asked me, can we move here? She said to me, I just love the freedom from the self-righteous, holier than thou despots we have to deal with in Tampa.
FYI, Tampa is a Liberal-run city. Dem mayor. Dem city counsel.

Well, not if you read the anti DeSantis news in Jacksonville. They actually mentioned today that Jacksonville is in the midst of a CCP virus surge!! I looked at the numbers over the past few weeks and the percentage of positives has been relatively flat to slightly down with the exception of one day, an anomaly. These suckers continue to float BS, of course the story came on the heals of the very successful marshal arts tourney held sat night in Jacksonville. The story continued it was too early to figure on what a spreader activity like 15000 attendees could have on future numbers. I truly wish these “reporters” would ESAD.

What's May 18th other than voting in the primaries, have to do with masks?
I live in W PA and went to one of my favorite Italian restaurants last week for lunch. The bar was full, and while the servers had masks, no patron had one on, not while entering, eating or departing.
Everyone was enjoying the day, and no one said a cross word about the non-wearing of masks.
I won't name the place for fear that the mask nazis might be lurking.

We just witnessed a coup d’etat by of all parties the medical establishment - the last group I would have expected.
I suspected something was coming with all the zombie/virus bullcrap being pumped out of Hollywood so I didn’t buy into the Covid Hoax, but I confess I was taken completely by surprise by the Lab Coat Putsch.
