The U.S. Census Bureau will announce the results of the 2020 population count, which will determine the number of seats in the House of Representatives and potentially shift power in Congress.

Several states, according to estimated numbers from the political consulting firm Election Data Services, are on the bubble to potentially gain or lose members based on population shifts within the country. Among the biggest predicted winners are Florida and Texas, set to gain two and three seats respectively, while states including California and New York are expected to lose at least one seat each.

In addition to affecting the House members each state may elect, Monday’s numbers will also affect the number of Electoral College votes per state during presidential elections. Electoral College votes are assigned based on the number of House members each state has plus its two senators.

Election Data Services’ analysis, published in December, also predicted that Arizona, Colorado, Montana, North Carolina and Oregon will each gain one House seat each.

Meanwhile, Alabama, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia are on the hot seat to lose one member of Congress each.

Could we stop this “red state/blue state” BS??? Many of these states that are red now can go blue in the future or voce versa. Remember when Virginia and Colorado were so called “red states?”

As population shifts and older voters die, voting habits change and are in flux.

Which means there will be less Red States in the future.

“That would be great if they did not spread miasma everywhere they go”

But they do. So, the very blue states will remain blue, while the formerly red states they move to go purple, or even blue.

Yep. Besides, most of these leftward voting changes are due to immigration and brainwashed youth...and not older people moving.

According to this, Blue states lose 9 House seats, Red states gain 10. Since the current balance is 222 D to 212 R, the change could be 213 D to 222 R out of 435 total. That does not count additional seats the Dems might lose in Red states. So, the Lefties had better have their revolution in 2021, cuz the year of the Ox will become the year of the Tiger. Ox has a reason to worry.

I think you make a good point. It isn’t Red or Blue as states don’t really have those colors. Arkansas gave us Clinton and now it’s Red. California gave us Reagan and now it’s Blue.

What we are seeing is Tax flight for those able and motivated. I know a friend that left CA as he is retired, a widower, an investor hit by State tax and content with moving to a tax friendly state. His political aversion to CA laws and some of their culture plays a part but he also loves it as a great state.

We do have businesses migrating as they balance local market versus business friendly legal and tax climate but that is also economic.

Yeah, Alabama don't need no Yankees!

As Lynard Skynard sang,
A Southern man don't need them around, anyhow.

I was born in California, but parents moved when I was a baby.

Was stationed in California when I was in the Marines at 29 Palms in 1973. Some guy named Ronald Reagan was governor then. Rode my motorcycle all over southern California. It was still beautiful and sane. I’m glad I got to see it before it went to hell.................

Do you know what the difference between a Yankee and damn Yankee is? The Yankee knows enough to go back home.

‘...while the formerly red states they move to go purple, or even blue.’

not necessarily; many of those fleeing are doing so because they don’t like the blue state policies...

Many of them can’t make the connection between the policies & politicians they supported and the consequences they are now enduring. To them its almost like it happened by magic !
